Guest guest
SrI: Dear BhakthAs of ThiruviNNagarappan : Today , let us enjoy the 8th Paasuram of Kaliyan's Periya Thirumozhi from 6.2 decad : theevaay valvinayAr udan ninRu siRanthavar pOl mEvA vennarahatthu idar uRRU virainthu vanthAr Moovaa Vaanavar tamm MudalvA ! mathik-kOLL viduttha DevA ! NinnadainthEn ThiruviNNagar MeyavanE ! (Meaning) : Oh Lord of the DevAs and Nithya Sooris ( eternally liberated souls) , who never age ( Moovaa vaanavar tamm Mudalvaa ) ! Oh the king of Vaidhyars/Doctors , who cured adiyEn's mind of the ksahya rOgam/ consumptive disease ( mathi kOLL viduttha DEvA ) through Mantra UpadEsam ! The grand sins (vinaikaL) with destrcutive fire in their mouth acted as adiyEn's well wishers and followed adiyEn everywhere to cease the opportunity to push me in to the fierce fires of hell (narakam) . As they hastened to fulfill their wish , adiyEn ran away from them to the safety of Your ThiruvadivAram (Sacred feet ) . It is now Your duty to protect adiyEn from all these calamities . Special Notes: " Thee Vaay val-vinayArhaL " refers to the vinais or accumulated sins (VinaikaL) talking the shape of humans with closed mouths . Once the mouth is opened , destructive fire came out of them . These Vinais mean nothing but inauspiciousness , destruction and naraka vaasam . The Vinais pretended as though they were anukoolars ( well wishers) just like the Raakshasi Poothanai did by hiding herself as a beautiful lady interested to feed the infant KrishNa with her breast milk . These horrible sins came rushing to adiyEn with the sole intent of pushing me in to the hot embers of Narakams like Taptha Kumbham , KumbheebhAgam , Taptha lOham , Mahaa JwAlam ( for the one who insults Vedam or teaches it for money ) , VilOhitham , Krumeepaksham , adhOmukham ( narakam for one who recieves dhAnam from lowly ones and for those who predicts about future happenings without the study of JyOthisha sAsthram ) and other narakams like agni jwAlam . adiyEn could have saved myself by performing appropriate PrAyscchitthams . adiyEn did not do them and it is no wonder these sins have been chasing me to trip me and to dump me in hot fires of hell . In the NaimichAraNya Paasurams , Kaliyan has elaborated on one such hell ( Taptha Kumbham )reserved for those , who lust after the wives of other men : vampalAm koonthal manayviyai thuRanthu piRar poruL thaaram yenRivaRRai nampinAr iRanthAl naman tamar paRRi yERRi vaitthu yeriyezhuhinRa chempinAl iyanRa paavayai Paavee tazhuvu yena mozhivatharkkanji NampanE , vanthun thiruvadi adainthEn NaimichAraNayutthuLL YenthAi Abandoning one's wife and going after the other person's wife yields a special type of punishment in narakam ; the sufferings of such a person is described by Thirumangai in the above Paasuram . Out of fear for this and other narakams , Kaliyan states that he has arrived at the sacred feet of the Lord of NaimichAraNyam . Kaliyan is not guilty of any of these sins but he reminds the sinners of the world about the consequences of their actions so that they can do appropriate redemptive vrathams ( PrAyascchitthams ) like EkAdasi vratham , Yaagam , penance , Kruchra-sAnthrAyaNam et al. The best among all these Praayascchittham is the reflection on the glories of Lord KrishNa ( KrishNAnusmaraNam ) : prAyascchitthAn asEshANi tapa: karmAthmakAni vai yaani tEshAm asEshANam KrishNAnusmaraNam Param Meditation on Lord KrishNa is the cure for " TheevAi valvinayAr idarkaL " . That is Sarva Paapa PrAyaschittham . anusmaraNam implies sEshathva anusandhAnam ( rememberance of the relationship of ours as the bonded servants of the Lord in an indissoluble manner ) . There are no restrictions on the time or place for KrishNAnusamaraNam . It can be done anywhere at any time . This anusmaraNam of the Lord will kindle the ruchi (desire) for the observance of Bhakthi or Prapatthi yOgam . That person , who engages in KrishNAnusmaraNam will never end up in narakam but will reap Moksha Sukham . Thirumangai explains his predicament and announces to the Lord that he has arrived now at the safe haven around the Lord's sacred feet to escape the chase from the fierce sins chasing him ( NinnadainthEn ThiruviNNagar MEyavanE ) in this Paasuram .
