Dearest Srivaishnavas,

Let us continue to enjoy PeyAzhwAr’s wonderful

anubhavams on ThiruvEnkatam. Today’s and concluding

verse on ThiruvEnkatam is the 89th verse.

mudintha pozuthil kuRavaaNar, Enam

padinthuzusaal painthinaikaL vittha, - thadinthezuntha

vEyngazaipOy viNthiRakkum vEngadamE, mElorun^aaL

theenguzalvaay vaitthaan silambu. 89

A wonderful verse again!

The old gypsy folks residing in ThiruvEnkatam

mountain, who are in their evening of their lives;

being unable to perform their daily routine of

planting seeds, growing them and harvesting etc.. and

hence do not do full justice to their work and try

doing slowly or nothing at all. The boars loitering

there in the forests of ThiruvEnkatam walk, run,

loiter and tear open with their horns, these fields

and even cut these bamboo trees and branches… And then

the cut bamboo branches also start to grow and touch

the skies on top of this ThiruvEnkatam mountain where

the little KaNNan [Kutti KaNNan] who has played so

beautifully the bamboo (flute) in His mouth.

A little vague it appears… First it says: old folks

are tired and are not bale to grow the seeds. The

boars with their strengths run and go on rampage and

break, cut all the trees and plants.. Next line it

says, in spite of that, though the field is kind of

ploughed, bamboos cut and destroyed by these boars,

the bamboos started to grow on this mountain and touch

the skies.

What does it imply?

Poorvars say:

It is like a jeevan being unable to perform the

ceaseless meditation and dhyAnam i.e. the bhakti yoga

thourgh Karma, jnAna yoga and hence declares his

helplessness [aakinchanyam] and raises his hand to

ThiruvEnkatamudaiyaan performing a small [but

grandest] deed of Saranagathi [when it is able]. The

boars (meaning Varaaha who had promised that he would

personally come and take care of those who have

performed Saranagathi and take them to His abode] help

the gypsies and cuts and crushes the karma vaasanaas ;

destroys the same and thereby everything is clean.

What does it mean to mention- again it started to

grow. This is none other than Utthara kruthyaaa. What

to do after performance of Saranagathi? One should not

just say: I have performed Prapatti [saranagathi] and

hence I should not do any thing else- no

Sandhuyavandhanam, no kaimkaryam, no nithya karma, no

naimittika karma etc.. All should again grow to the

same extent with a different heights (of Bhagavath

preethyarttham, and for all His pleasure and that

would touch Him (the skies). This is what is implied

here.

Let us reflect upon the assurance given by Sri Varaaha

Swamin to BhUmi PiraaTTi. [for saving us]

sthithE manasi ….. cha maamajam (1)

tathastham … nayAmi paramAm gathim (2)

Oh Bhumi Devi! The entire universe is my body (sarIram

). I do not have births or deaths. When my bhakthAs

with mahA visvAsam surrender to me, while they are

still in a state of tranquil mind and healthy

body and reflect about Me as as SarvAdharan (root

cause of all), NiyanthA (one who commands from within)

sarva sEshi ( the ultimate ), aasrayaNeeyan (one who

is fit to be worshipped), Sarva VyApthan (all-

pervasive ) and Nithya sannihithan ( One who is

always near ), THEN I think of them at their last

moments, when they are totally unconscious like a log

or a stone and lead them by archirAdhi maargam to My

parama padham and bless them to have nithya kaimkarya

bhAgyam to Me there .

This is the mountain ThiruvEnkatam where the Kutti

KaNNan who had played flute in His mouth so divinely

resides. PeriyAzhwAr enjoys His playing of flute:

Siruviral Thadavi parimaRa

SenkaN Koda Seyyavai Koppulippa

KuRuvayirppuruvam koodilippa

Govindan Kuzhal kondu oodhinapodhu

Paravaiyin KanangaL koodu thurandhu

vandhu soozhndhu padukadu kidappa

Karavaiyin kanaNgaL Kal paRappittu

KavizhndhiraNgi Seviyattagillave.

When Govindan strokes and distributes through His

small lovely fingers over His flute and plays music,

(how? - SenkaN koda Seyyavai Koppulippa- The Lotus

eyes strain and the Lotus coral lips blow the air- How

great it will be to witness those Beautiful lotus eyes

and the( Kuvindha) Coral lips! - kuravayirppuruvam

Koodilippa - the little sweaty eye brows slightly

narrow down as if they are trying to touch each other

due to the effort he takes for playing the flute)

When such a lovely divine music flows from the

Almighty Himeself,

the Birds leave their nests and approach the Lord to

come near Him (to listen) and lie dead so that no

disturbance is caused even by their wings; and the

Cows and Calves (some of them are half way eating the

grass- some of them had already eaten but didn’t chew;

some just lowered to eat the grass but freezed and all

of them thus stopped in the middle in order not to let

their eating or munching sound disrupt them to hear

the Divine music- The cows and calves did not, no,

COULD NOT even shake their ears, it appears.

(Seviyaatagillave!)

That completes PeiyAzhwAr anubhavam of Thiruvenkatam

and let us now move to mazhisai vandha jyOthi in the

next post
