Guest guest
SrI: Dear BhakthAs of ThiruviNNagarappan : Today , we will study the seventh Paasuram from the 6.3 pathikam of Periya Thirumozhi : vERE kooRuvathu uNdu adiyEn viritthuraikkum aaRE Nee paNiyAthu adai Ninn Thirumanatthu kooREn nenju tannAl guNam koNDu maRROr dhaivam thEREn Unnaiallal ThiruviNNagarAnE The key words in this Paasuram are : " maRRu ohr dhaivam guNam koNDu nenju tannAl kooREn ; Unnai allAl thEREn " . NOW , ThiruviNNagappan asks AzhwAr a question : " Namm KaliyA ! I accept that you are a highly evolved Jn~Ani , who will not look at other dhaivams since You recognize that all of them are empowered by Me alone as their indweller and that they can not grant anyone Moksham . This MahA visvAsam of yours has brought me closer to you . I still have a question for you . In Your earlier paasuram ( MaanEy nOkku nallAr mathi pOL muhatthu ulavum OonEy kaNN vaaLikku - -- " ) , You described the power of the eyes of women whom you enjoyed in the past prior to the development of Vairagyam that drove you to Me . I am just curious about one thing in this context . Can you share with Me the particular GuNams and VibhUthis (Iswaryams) of the other gods that impressed you ? Kaliyan responds to the question of the Lord of ThiruviNNagaram through this paasuram . ( Meaning of the Paasuram ) : Oh ThiruviNNagarappA ! adiyEn's response to Your question is this ( adiyEn kooRuvathu vERE uNDu ) . Please do not anticipate adiyEn to elaborate on this subject like I did in the case of the charming women , who had a spell over me . adiyEn was then in the middle of SamsAra bhOgam . Once adiyEn enjoyed these bhOgams , I understood the dhOshams associated with such anubhavams and resolved to free myself from their powerful attractions. In the case of the other dhaivams , adiyEn has not worshipped them to gain any non-lasting bhOgams like residence in Svarga lOkam . Please do not therefore expect me to be conversant with the guNams or VibhUthis of these gods to describe them . The precious AshtAkshara ManthrOpadEsam alone that you blessed me with is sufficent for me . adiyEn has no desire to learn about the vibhUthis of the other gods . adiyEn has no doubt that there is any other god that can match or equal Your limitless vibhUthis and anantha kalyANa guNams . adiyEn will not spend even a fraction of a second thinking about the vibhUthis of the other gods , since the time spent that way is wasted time and takes adiyEn away from dhyAnam and keerthanam about You and AarAdhanam for You . adiyEn is speechless in this matter and genuinely could not respond to Your question even if I wanted to . This You have to accept . adiyEn's mind will not be tempted to think about the glories of other gods . adiyEn will not speak about them and will not hear other people speaking about their glories . adiyEn will not seek any god other than You as my PrApya PrApakam ( the object to be attained as the ultimate goal of my life ) . Please do not press adiyEn to describe the vibhuthis of other gods since adiyEn is an ignoramus in this matter . adiyEn has totally surrendered to You with the unalterable conviction that You are my sole protector , the means and goal for Moksham . You have said in GithA " MaamEkam SaraNam vraja " . adiyEn has followed that beacon of light to help me in the life's journey and have travelled directly to Your lotus feet and performed SaraNAgathy . There is not much that adiyEn can therefore say about the guNams or Iswaryams of the other gods . Thirumangai side steps the question of the Lord based on his genuine conviction about the Parathvam of ThiruviNNagarappan . Thirumangai & the Parathvam of Sriman Naryana ************************************************** After performing MangaLAsAsanam at ThiruviNNagaram , Thirumangai visited the dhivya dEsam of ThirukkaNNapuram and declared again emphatically there too about the Parathvam of Sriman Narayanan ( Periya Thirumozhi: 8.10.3) , which he stated at ThiruviNNagaram : MaRRum ohr dhaivam uLathenRu iruppArOdu uRRilEn , uRRathum UnnadiyArkkadimai maRRellAm pesilum Ninn Thiruvettezhutthum kaRRu nAnn KaNNapuratthemmAnE (Meaning ) : Oh Lord of KaNNapuram ! AdiyEn will not even associate with those , who think that there is a God superior to You , who is worthy of worship . The most ardent desire of adiyEn is to engage in servitude to Your BhaagavathAs . Special Notes : **************** Thirumangai AzhwAr followed very closely Swamy NammAzhwAr, the Prapanna Jana kUtasthar . Thirumangai's adoration of Swamy NammAzhwAr is based on his gratitude for SaThakOpan showing the way for the jeevAthmA's sacred union with Sri Vaikunta NaaTan through the means of absolute Self-surrender (SaraNAgathy) . Swamy NammAzhwAr performed SaraNAgathy with aakinchanyam , ananyagathithvam and bhakthi pAravasyam through immortal ThiruvAimozhi(TVM) paasurams at ThiruviNNagar , ThirumOhUr , VaanamAmalai ( TVM 5.7) , Thirukkudanthai ( TVM 5.8) , ThiruvallavAzh ( TVM 5.9) and at Milky Ocean ( TVM 5.10) . Since there is no mention of Sri Devi ( recommendatory authority ) in these Paasurams , Swamy NammAzhwAr's SaraNAgathy was not completed . Hence , Swamy NammAzhwAr performed PoorNa SaraNAgathy at ThiruvengadamudayAn's sacred feet at Thirumalai by declaring : " ThiruvenkatatthAnE ! pukal onRu illA adiyEn unn adikkeezh amarnthu puhunthEnE " . ThiruviNNagarappan & ThiruvengadamudayAn ************************************************** ThiruviNNagarappan is worshipped as the DakshiNa VenkatEsan and as the elder brother of Lord SrinivAsan , who arrived here before as ArchA Moorthy before Kali Yugam . That is why Swamy NammAzhwAr declares : " TannoppArillappan tanthanan tann thAL nizhalE " in his ThiruviNNagara Paasurams . In view of the path-finding help to reach Sri Vaikuntam ( ThiruviNNagar) , Thirumangai brought ( yezhuntharilap-paNNInAr) Swamy NammAzhwAr's archaa vigraham from AzhwAr Thirunahari to Srirangam (BhUlOka Vaikuntam) and started the adhyayana uthsavam or ThiruvAi mozhi ThiruvizhA at Srirangam . Swamy NamAzhwAr as Maarga Darsi for Thirumangai ******************************************************** Let us enjoy now the extraordinary effect Swamy NammAzhwAr had on Thirumangai . When Thirumangai declared in the ThiruviNNagara Paasuram " kooREn nenju tannAl guNam koNDu maRROr dhaivam " , He was echoing the thoughts of Swamy NammAzhwAr's Thirukkuruhoor Paasuram on Lord Adhi NaaTan ( ThiruvAimozhi: 4.10.1): " kunRam pOl MaNimAdaneedu ThirukkuruhUrathanuL ninRa AadhippirAn niRka maRRai dhaivam naaduthirE " On another occasion , Thirumangai took the guidance of Swamy NammAzhwAr for the ParamaikAnthis , where SaThakOpan was referring to the anushtAnam of ParAnkusa Naayaki in the matters of the Parathvam (Supermacy) of the Lord : " unnitthu maRRoru dhaivam thozhAL Avanai allAl " She will not even think of worshipping any one except EmperumAn says Swamy NammAzhwAr ( ThiruvAimozhi: 4.6.10) here . Another AzhwAr states elsewhere that other gods like Indhran , Rudran or Brahma are powerless when it comes to prescribing the medicine to cure the illness of the disease known as SamsAram . Sri Vaikunta NaaTan is the only Doctor ( Marutthuvan) , who can cure this wasting disease of SamsAram . These are the thoughts of PeriyAzhwAr , which Thirumangai remembered also in the shaping of his dEha yAthra : " MarutthuvanAi ninRa MaamanivaNNA ! maRu piRavi tavira thirutthi , Unn kOil kadaippahappey ThirumAlirumchOlai YenthAi " Oh Lord of ThirumAlirumchOlai ! You stand for me as the doctor who has cured my disease of Samsaram and freed me from being born again here( SamsAra MaNDalam ) . Moola Manthra UpadEsam for Thirumangai ************************************************* Sriman Narayanan directly initiated Thirumangai on AshtAksharam ( Moola Manthram ). This is known as Manthra rahasyam. The PaancharAthra Dhvaya Mantra is known as anushtAna rahasyam . Lord's Charama slOkam is Known as Vidhi rahasyam . Just as He( Badri NaarAyaNan) performed Moola Mantra updEsam for Naran on top of HimalayAs , Sriman NarayaNan blessed Thirumangai with Manthra rahasyam at KurayalUr in ChOLa dEsam . Moola Mantram is the preeminent manthra for practising the SaraNAgathy Vidhya .Dhvaya Manthram revealed by Sriman NarayaNa to His divine consort is an elaboration of Moola Manthram . The Charama slOkam is considered as a detailed presentation of Moola Manthram . If one is blessed with Moola Manthram from a SadAchAryan , there is nothing else to seek in this world . Having been the beneficiary of the Moola Manthra UpadEsam from the Lord Himself with His PirAtti by His side , Thirumangai was uniquely blessed to benefit from the full power of Tatthva Jn~nam , Parama hitham of SaraNaagathy as the unfailing means and the PurushArTam of Moksha sukham . Thirumangai recognized the Lord as " the spring of water in the midst of a sandy desert " ( Rg Vedam: X.4.1) ; He saluted the Lord as " the nonleaking boat that can safely take us to the shore in the disturbed waters of life " ( Rg Vedam: X.63.10) . Thirumangai approached the Lord of ThiruviNNagaram in the ancient Vedic way : " as a staff on whom the weak and ignorant man can lean and walk happily " during his dEha yaathra that leads up to his arrival at Sri Vaikuntam via archirAdhi maargam ( Rg Vedam :VIII.45.20). In the next Paasuram on ThiruviNNagarappan , Thirumangai cites the anithyathvam of worldly life and presses the Lord to reveal when He will bless him to reach Sri Vaikuntam .
