ANDAL's avathAra dinam(Aadi Pooram ) at Sri Villiputthur

is August 8 this year . It is some 52 days away . Preparations are

now underway at Her avathAra Sthalam (NaachiyAr ThirumALikai) for

the grnad anual event : Aadi Poora Uthsavam .

 

Why do we celebrate ANDAL's avathAra dinam and Sthalam ?

As ANDAL BhakthAs , we all must reflect upon Her blessings to us

through Her matchless Sri Sookthis of ThiruppAvai ( Vedam anaitthukkum

VitthAhum ) and NaacchiyAr Thirumozhi . The 173 Paasurams that she

generously blessed us with are our Taarakam and Poshakam .

 

Her avathAra Sthalam , SrivilliputthUr is known as " Muppuri Oottiya sthalam "

since AkAram , UkAram and MakAram are present together on a single Peetam

here at NaacchiyAr ThirumALigai . Sri RangamannAr ( akAra Vaachyan ) ,

ANDAL ( UkAra Vaachyai) and PeriyAzhwAr /Garudan ( MakAra Vaachyar ) are

giving their sEvai to us all from the same seat at SriviliputthUr .

 

When we look along the three-pronged matrix of PramEyam , PramAthA

and PramANam , AchAryAs have pointed out that the title of " Muppuri

Oottiya Sthalam " applies as well :

 

PramEyam , the object of Knowledge is VaDapathra Saayee , the Lord ;

 

PramAthAs ( the cognizers ) are PeriyAzhwAr and his dear daughter ANDAL ;

 

PramANams ( the Means of Valid Knowledge ) are ThiruppallANDu ,

ThiruppAvai and NaacchiyAr Thirumozhi .

 

It is rare indeed to get all the above three to be united at one place .

Here at the TuLasi Vanam of PeriyAzhwAr , ANDAL incarnated on

an Aadippooram day . PeriyAzhwAr , Her foster father raised Her as

"anjukkudikku oru SanthathiyAi " .

 

PeriyAzhwAr released the meaning of PraNavam through His ThiruppallANDu .

His daughter ( the amsam of Sri , Bhu and NeeLA Devis ) revealed to us

through Her ThiruppAvai , the inner meaning of " NamO NaarAyaNAya " .

Thus the two Pranhandhams of ThiruppallANDu and ThiruppAvai

provide upadEsam for us about the full meaning of AshtAkshara Manthram .

 

We recite during all the sevA kaalams these two Prabhandhams as

AshtAkshara Japa Rooppam . During SaaRRu MuRai Kaalam , " SiRRam

SiRu KaalE " from ThiruppAvai takes precedence over ThiruppallANDu .

It is for these reasons that we celebrate Aadi Pooram & SrivilliputthUr ,

where ANDAL wed Lord RanganAthA and He settled down at His

Father-in-Law's house ( NaachhiyAr ThirumALikai) with the name of

RangamannAr .

 

It is for these reasons we celebrate ANDAL's avathara dinam of Aadi Pooram

and Her avathAra sthalam of SrivilliputthUr .

 

WHAT IS SPECIAL DURING THE 2005 AADI POORAM DAY ?

With ANDAL's anugraham , we plan to focus on three events :

 

1) Present a Mutthangi for ANDAL and RangamannAr on this day

on behalf of all of Her children .

 

2) Present a Dance Drama from NaachiyAr Thirumozhi ( One hour long )

cherographed by my sister , VidvAmsini Smt. Padma VeerarAghavan .

 

3) A Mandolin Concert of one of the students of my sister ( One hour long ) .

 

1) Mutthangi Creation & SamarpaNam

A well known Mutthangi making expert (Sri KrishNAji ) , who has created similar

Mutthangis for Lord Ranganatha , Thiruvengadamudayan and Oppiliappan

( Moolavars and Uthsavars) has agreed to create this special angi in time for

this year's Uthsavam at SrivilliputthUr . Sri KrishNaji and family are at Chennai .

He will visit Srivilliputhur for taking the measurements for the Mutthangi .

 

2) A DANCE DRAMA BASED ON NAACHIYAR THIRUMOZHI PAASURAMS

Ten paasurams from the 14 different pathikams will be selected including

the famous " VaaraNamAyiram " pathikam (decad) to structure the dance

drama as a conversation between Govindhan and GodhA PirAtti .

 

3) Mandolin concert based on selected slokams of GodhA Sthuthi

**************************************************************************************

A young vidhvAn will present an hour long concert in front of ANDAL

and Her Azhagiya MaNavALan on this avathAra dinam following

the Dance-Drama .

 

The estimated expenses for organizing event is estimated to be a little

more than one laks of Rupees ( $2,500 ) .

 

The plan is to realize the sponsorship of :

 

(1) 10 BhakthAs of ANDAL providing $250 support each

 

(2) or 25 BhakthAs providing $ 100 support each

 

(3) Or 50 BhakthAs providing $50 support each .

 

Any amount is welcome . The intent is to have as many

BhakthAs take part as possible .

 

We will arrange for ANDAL's Kumkuma PrasAdham and

a DVD of the event , if permitted by the DevasthAnam ,

for the sponsors to remember this unique day .
