Dearest Srivaishnavas,

After Thirumazhisai AzhwAr Naanmukhan ThirvanthAthi on

ThiruvEnkatam, we will begin to enjoy Thirumazhisai

AzhwAr’s verses [on Thirucchanda viruttham]. Second

verse is the 60th verse on ThiruvEnkatam.

AzhwAr now enjoys and praises His reclining

Thirukkudnathai beauty along with ThiruvEnkatam.

Well grown stout tall bamboo trees due to the snow and

fog settling on top of it, bends down at night (due to

the weight) and when the sun rises the snow melts and

the bamboo raises to its height again fully touching

the skies of ThiruvEnkatam- where He stands

majestically. He is the one at Thirukkudanthai in

reclining position where bees completely cover the

beautiful flowers drinking honey from there residing

therein; where fertile dense gardens and large cool

ponds are enjoyed in great numbers.

The Lord of ThiruvEmkatam- blessing devas and humans

there is the same Kovalan (king) one reclining at

Thirukkudanthai. The bamboos due to the anugraham of

Thiruvenkatamudaiyaan and the earth’s strength, grow

very tall on top of the mountain almost touching the

skies as if they are inviting the Devas to

ThiruvEmkatam. They bow down due to the snow weight at

night- as if they are performing their saashtAnga

praNAmams at the lotus feet of the Lord indicating to

the whole world, “You also do that”.

The snow engulfing the bamboo- makes the bamboo bend;

and when the sun shines, it comes back to its

strength- it implies tat even the plants and trees

languish if the Lord’s kataaksham is not there; and

rejoices and grows with strength when His glances are

there.

Vruksha iva sthabDhO dhivi thishtathyEka: - He makes

others bow down at His feet; and once done, he

elevates them up… and raises them… He is LakshmI

ramaNan.

Bees are referred to mean NithyasUris coming down at

ThiruvEmkatam to drink the honey of

thiruvEmkatamudaiyaan and jump from divya desam to

divya desam..

Sezhunkozhum perumpani- the huge amount of snow has

adjectives “sezhum” and kozhum”. Sezhum- snowing for

longer duration; kozhum- snowing in larger quantities;

Perum pani- the snow that completely covers the

bamboos and make them bow down due to weight on top of

them.

Yezhundhirundhu and kidantha- getting up and reclining

both words are used in this verse- which takes us to

the next verse- kidanthavaaRu yezhundhirundhu pEsu

Aaazhi kEsanE.. devotees may be reminded of Azhwar’s

life incident here.
