In this short series , we shall highlight some specail words and passages

from the individual slOkams of GodhA Sthuthi of Swamy Desikan .

 

adiyEn invites you all to join in the Mutthangi Kaimkaryam on Aadi Pooram

day ( Aug 8) and the NaachiyAr Thirumozhi Dance drama on Aug 3 at

SrivilliputthUr .

 

The Mutthangi for Sri RangamannAr and GarudAmsar , PeriyAzhwAr are

being readied and it will take few weeks beyond Aug 8 to complete those

Mutthangis . It is intricate work and there are not enough experts to rush

all the three Mutthangis at the same time so that they can all be ready on Aug 8.

We have therefore chosen to focus on completion of the Mutthangi for

ANDAL first so that we can realize our wish to make the samarpaNam to

ANDAL on Her birthday .

 

Prayer to HH The 26th Pattam Azhagiya Singar

This Azhagiya Singar ( Ilanagar SriranganAtha YathIndhra MahA Desikan

is revered as an avathAram of ANDAL of SrivilliputthUr . Let us recite His

Taniyan before starting thsi series ofn GodhA Sthuthi :

 

SrIveerarAghava yathIndhra ParAnkusAdhi

RaamAnujArya KamalAnidhi yOgivaryai:

SamprEkshitham karuNayA paripoorNaBhOdham

Sri RanganAtha YathisEkharam aasrayAma:

 

This Azhagiya Singar (26th Pattam )is the son of HH the 25th Pattam

Azhagiya Singar , the GarudAmsar ( PeriyAzhwAr ) .

 

Godha Sthuthi Metres

The first 27 slOkams are set in Vasantha Tilakaa metre

and the last two are set in Maalini metre . This sthuthi is thus

like a garland ( Maalai ) strung from the flowers that blossomed

in the Vasantha Ruthu (Spring season ) and stays as a Tilakam

on the forehead of Lord RanganAtha .

 

GodhA Sthuthi SlOkam 1

********************************** At the very outset , Swamy Desikan performs SaraNAgathy at

the sacred feet of GodhA as one , who has no other means

( Godhaam ananya SaraNa; SaraNam PrapadhyE ) . Swamy Desikan

celebrates GodhA as another avathAram of Periya PirAtti based on

Her kalyANa guNam of KaaruNyam ( KaruNayA anyAm KamalAm iva ).

Swamy recognizes Her also as the embodiment of the virtue of patience

and equates Her on that basis with BhUmi Devi ( SaakshAth KshamAm ) .

 

Swamy Desikan gives two more particulars about His SaraNya dhaivam,

ANDAL :

 

1. She is like the boon granting Kalpaka creeper in the garden ( Kulam ) of

PeriyAzhwAr ( SrI VishNuchittha Kulanandhana Kalpavalli ) .

 

2. This Kalpaka creeper can not stand by itself . It embraces therefore

a Harichandana Vruksham found next to it in the garden of PeriyAzhwAr .

( Sri RangarAja Harichandhana yOga dhrusyAm , Sri VishNuchittha

kula Nandhana kalpavallem GodhAm ananya SaraNa: SaraNam PrapadhyE ) .
