SrI:

Dear BhakthAs :

It is my pleasure to forward you the note from

Sriman A.M.R.Kannan about the three valuable

CD ROMs about Swamy Desika SthOthrams and

Uthsavam .

Please contact Sriman Kannan to acquire these treasures for

your family audio libraries . It is rare to get santhai style

instructions to learn Swamy Desika SthOthra Paatams .

adiyEn learnt Sri HayagrIva SthOthram in Santhai form front of Garudan

Sannidhi at Oppiliappan Koil from a MahA VidhvAn . Once one learns

in this manner , correct pronunciations are retained and it is held

forever .

Swamy Desikan out of His compassion has incorporated

the Manthrams of the Moorthys in many of His sthothrams

and Men , Ladies and Children can get the benefit of reciting

these sthOthrams without the needed initiation from an UpAsakar .

adiyEn will continue to write on these sthOthrams one by one .

Many of them are already available with meanings at:

http://www.Sadagopan.org in the Acharya Section .

**************************************************************

Today , let us study one SlOkam in SikhariNi metre from

Sri NyAsa Tilakam :

MahEndrAgnA VishNu prabhruthishu mahatthva prabhruthivath

prapatthavyE tatthvE pariNamitha vaisishtya vibhavAm

adhrushyathvam dhoothvaa kamithur-abhigamyathvam Jananeem

Sriyam seethApAngAm ahamaSaraNO yaami SaraNam

- - - - SrI NyAsa Tilakam : SlOkam 4

The key words of the SlOkam are : " SeethApAngam Sriyam

aSaraNa: aham SaraNam yAmi " . adiyEn , who has no other

refuge seek SrI Devi known for Her cool , nectar-like KatAkshams .

She stays both as UpAyam and PurushakAram for the Bhaddha

Jeevan . Her Motherly heart melts over the suffering of the SamsAris

and She pushes aside (dhUthvA ) the inapproachability ( adhrushyathvam )

of Her loving consort ( kamithu:) and makes Him easily approachable

( abhigamyathva Jananeem) by the chEthanams . If it is not for Her ,

the erring Jeevans could not approach Her lord . He has such a deep

love for Her and that makes it easy for those , who has Her grace

to approach Him readily . Thus She becomes the one , who intercedes

on behalf of the chEtanams , who trespass Her Lord's Saasthrams .

She displays the guNam of PurushakAram this way . SrI Devi has

the Vaibhavam of always being with Her Lord . When the Bhaddha

Jeevan performs SaraNAgathy , She is with Her Lord and becomes

the UpAyam . Therefore , one has to perform Prapatthi to Them jointly .

She casts Her cool and rejuvenating glances on the chEtanans and

removes their samsAric taapams .

Swamy Desikan uses here two Vedic practises to emphasize the need

for performing Prapatthi to both of them together . In one of the Yaj~nams ,

Havis is offered to the glorious Indhran(MahEndran) . When the Yaj~nam is

performed ,

Vedam says that one should not divorce the glorious attribute of Indhran

from Him and offer Havis just to Him as Indhran . It has to be offered

jointly

for Indhran and His glory as indicated by His nAmam of MahEndhran .

Similarly , there are number of Yaagams , where Havis is offered to both

Agni and VishNu together . Vedam instructs us that we should not offer Havis

seperately to Agni and VishNu . You can not leave one aside for the other.

Similarly , Sri Devi has the glory of being always with Her Lord . She does

not leave His side even for a second . She is there with Him , when the

chEtanam performs SaraNAgathy and serves as UpAyam . Therefore , Prapatthi

has to be done to both of them in a state of togetherness . At that time ,

the most cooling glances of our Mother falls on us and destroys the

scorching heat of SamsAram .Therefore says Swamy Desikan that he seeks

Her as refuge as She blesses us through the roles of PurushakAram andf

UpAyam .

Swami Desikan Sthothra Padam CDs

Dear Devotees,

Adiyen recently received two sets of CDs from Kanchipuram Sriman

Satagopa Thathachariyar Swami. One CD contains Swami Desikan's

mangalasasana uthsavam at Sri Devadhi Rajan Sannithi on the day of

Swami's thirunakshatram. The second set of CDs contains all the

sthothrapadam of Swami Desikan in a santhai format. The total duration

of these two santhai CDs is around 13 hours. Sriman Satagopa

Thathachariyar Swami has done a great service to our community by

rendering Swami Desikan's sthothras in a santhai format. Since these

slokas have been rendered by Sanskrit scholars, all the slokas have been

rendered without a flaw. Adiyen made 100 copies of these CDs with Sriman

Thathachariyar Swami's permission for distribution in USA. These CDs is

available at the cost of 35$ (for all the 3 CDs). This entire amount of

$ 35.00 will go for Swami Desikan's Nithya Thiruvaradhana Kainkaryam. So

essentially anyone who contributes 35$ for one day of nithya thiru

aradhanam, will get these CDs for free. While writing this appeal I

really feel sad and ashamed. We have become so ungrateful to our

Poorvarcharyas, we need to sell their own works to collect money for

their daily aradhanams!!

Anyways, to get these CDs please mail your check to:

Nagu Satyan

NAMA Inc

C/O Nagu Satyan

Littleton

Please note that the checks should be made payable to " NAMA Inc. " After

mailing your check, send me an email (kamr at syr dot edu) with your

address and adiyen will mail you these precious CDs. Please do not send

any personal checks to me.

Adiyen also fully aware of the fact that many of us have involved in so

many kainkaryams on a monthly basis or some people even on a weekly

basis!! But please do give priority to Swami Desikan's nithya aradhana

kainkaryam as well.

I hope someone will take lead on creating similar santhai format CDs for

Swami Kurathazhwan's Pancha Sthavas, Swami Parasara Bhattar's sthothras

and other poorvacharyas sthothra padams.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Adiyen Ramanujadasan Kannan
