WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS DAY ?

******************************************************

WHY IS THIS DAY MARKED FOR PARIVARDHANAM ?

Why is this day is marked for huge Growth in our VidhyA and Jn~Anam ?

WHY AND HOW SHOULD WE SUPPORT ACHARYA KAIMKARYAMS ?

******************************************************************************************

In the Sikshavalli section of Taitthireeya Upanishad , there is a section

called : AnthEvAsyAnuSAsanam about the AchAryan 's commands to

a Sishyan after teaching him about Veda/VedAnthams :

It starts with " Sathyam Vadha , Dharmam Chara , SvAdhyAyAn maa pramadha:

ACHAARYAAYA PRIYAM DHANAM AAHRUTHYA PRAJAATANTHUM MAA

VYAVACCHETHSEE: ( Having offered the AchAryan the desired Guru

DakshiNai, do not cut off the line of progeny ) -------

The UpadEsam continues : SathyAnna Pramadhithavyam ------AachArya dEvo

Bhava ( Let Your AchAryan be God unto You ) ----

Regarding samarpaNams of AchArya Kaimkaryams , the Upanishad passage

instructs the Sishyan :

SraddhayA dhEyam ( You should offer your SamarpaNam with Faith )

asraddhayA dhEyam ( You should offer your samarpaNam without attachment )

SriyA dhEyam ( You should offer your samarpaNam with a happy state of Mind )

HriyA dhEyam ( You should offer it with shyness that you are not giving enough)

bhiyA dhEyam ( You should offer with fear that it is not proportionate to

the MahOpakAram done by the AchAryan for opening your spiritual eye )

samvidhA dhEyam ( You should give with will /without hesitation ).

This set of instructions concludes in a thundering fashion:

" This is the command ( aadEsa: ) and this is the instruction ( UpadEsa: ) .

This is the sacred teaching of the VedhAs ( yEshA VedhOpanishad) .

This is the command that the Teacher /AchAryan should impart to

the disciple ( yEthadh-anusAsanam ) . Thus should it be practised

( yEvam upAsithavyam) .Thus alone should one meditate ( yEvamuchaithadh-

upAsyam )."

The Siksha valli section of Taitthareeya Upanishad concludes with the UpasamhAra

Saanthi Paatam : " --- SamnO VishNururukrama: ( May VishNu of vast strides

protect US ) --------- tannmAmAveeth , tadhvakthAramAveeth , AaveenmAm ,

Aaveedh vakthAram , Om Saanthi: Saanthi: Saanthi: " ( That Brahman protected

me . That Brahman protected the AchAryan . Om Peace, Peace , Peace ") .

It is in the context of AchArya Vandhanam that we celebrate AchArya

Thirunakshathrams and feel fulfilled to offer our SamarpaNams as

SambhAvanai for the MahOpakArams Recieved from an AchAryan .

adiyEn will elaborate next in this 79th and 80th Thirunakshathram series

about the Upanishadic Instruction : " SraddhyA dhEyam " .

What is SraddhA ? Who is SraddhA ?

We will take up the two versions of SraddhA Sooktham and study

their meanings according to Nanjeeyar's commentary on SrI Sooktham

and Saayana BhAshyam .
