Dearest all,

 

Let us continue to enjoy Thirumangai AzhwAr’s Periya

Thirumozhi. Today’s verse is Periya Thourmizh 1.8.7.

 

kalayaami kalidhvamsam kavim lOkadhivaakaram

yaSya kObi: prakaaSaabir aavidhyam niHatham thama:

 

I meditate on the Poet, who is like the Sun for the

whole world, to destroy the darkness of ignorance

(a~jnAnam) with his word and who destroys the Kali

dhOsham.

 

ambaramanalkaalnNilam salamaaginNinRavamararkOn,

vambulaamalarmEl malimada mangkai thankozhunNanavan,

kombinannavidai madakkuRamaadhar nNeeLidhaNanNdhoRum,

sembunamavaikaavalkoL thiruvEngkadamadainNeNYchamE!

8. He is in the Pancha bhUthams (the five elements of

Nature)- He is the Chief of DevAs- He is the Nayakan

of Periya PiraaTTi- MahAlakshmi- He is My Emperumaan-

staying at ThiruvEmkatam, the most beautiful fertile

land, where gypsy women take care of the field. Oh

mind! Reach there.

 

The Lord is the in-dweller in the five elements and

directs the same. He is the supporter of the all these

five elements.

 

Our Lord creates everything with His sankalpam at the

time after PraLayam.During PraLayam, the sentient and

insentient are attached to the Lord in an avyakthA

form in tight embrace .Upanishad describes this act of

creation as: sOakAmayatha bahUsyAm prajAyEyEthi " All

of this creative initiative He undertakes just for

MahA Lakshmi's pleasure and enjoyment. [says Bhattar

in GuNa Rathna kOsam]

 

The chEthanam and achEthanam are in a shrunken state

embracing each other as part of the Lord's body during

the time of Pralayam. The Lord has them all in His

stomach as a small child floating in the waters of

primordial deluge. He decides to create to amuse and

entertain MahA Lakshmi.Naama Roopa prapancham comes in

to being with His sankalpam. Out of Moola Prakruthi

arises MahAn and from MahAn ,ahankAram

comes into being.AhankAram is of three kinds:

Saathvika, Raajasa and Taamasa AhankArams.

 

The Pancha bhUthams ( AakAsam ,Vaayu, Agni, Water and

Earth) arise. SaathvikAhankAram assisted by

raajasAhankAram lead to the creation of Manas, five

karmEndhriyams and five Jn~AnEndriyams.

 

NammAzhwAr also mentions the same in Thiruvaymozhi

10.10.10. muniyae; naanmukhanae… decad…

 

AzhwAr speaks out with utter gratitude for the

MahOpakAram done by the Lord (from Dr.VNV's

translation):

 

" Oh The indweller of Moola prakruthi, which evolves

further into derivative Tatthvams such as Mahath ,

ahankaram et al and pervades all space and thus is

infinite in coverage !

 

Oh the indweller of all liberated souls, who

encircles, extends over and is larger than the

prakruthi in extant, whose very nature is

characterized by Jn~Anam, Aanandham and tEjas !

 

Oh the unique possessor of Sanklapa Jn~Anam, which

extends even beyond and has its halo even beyond still

further, which is pure Anandham in nature!

 

MY YEARNING TO JOIN YOU WAS EVEN BIGGER THAN YOUR

SANKALPA-JN~ANAM IN MAGNITUDE .

 

BUT YOU COVERED ME UP, QUENCHED THIS YEARNING ! I

BECAME A DROP IN YOUR VASTNESS OF NECTAR OCEN. MY LONG

TIME AMBITION HAS BEEN FULFILLED.

 

Such Omnipotent Lord Paramapadha nAthan is here at

ThiruvEntakam. Oh Mind! Reach there-says AzhwAr.
