Let us continue to enjoy Thirumangai AzhwArs wonderful

verses on Thiruvenkatamudiayaan.

 

kalayaami kalidhvamsam kavim lOkadhivaakaram

yaSya kObi: prakaaSaabir aavidhyam niHatham thama:

 

I meditate on the Poet, who is like the Sun for the

whole world, to destroy the darkness of ignorance

(a~jnAnam) with his word and who destroys the Kali

dhOsham.

 

aNnRiya vaaNa Nnaayiram thOLum

thuNiyavaNn RaazhiThot taanai,

miNnthigazh kudumi vEngada malaimEl

mEviya vEthan^al viLakkai,

Then_thisaith thilatham aNnaiyavar naangaich

ChemBoNnChey kOyili NnuLLE,

maNnRathu Poliya magizhnthun^iNn Raanai

vaNangin^aan vaazhnthozhin^ thEnE (4.3.8)

 

Emperumaan, who had cut the 1000 shoulders of VaaNan,

with His ChakrAyudham, who stands on the mountain of

Thirumala,

who is praised and is the essence of all Vedas, like

the lamp

shedding light everywhere, who stands firm and solid,

where His

devotees enjoy seeing His Divine Beauty and where He

continues

to stay at all times for them; - Such most glorious

SarvEshwaran,

I am blessed to have seen Him at this sthlam of

SemponseykOil

and been saved..

 

VaNaasuran incident is referred to by other AzhwArs as

well in their verses in many places. PeriyAzhwArs

mentions this in ThiruppallANdu verse 7

 

theeyiRpolikinRa sensudaraazhi….

maayap porupadai vaaNanai, aayirandhOLum pozhi kuruthi

paaya

suzhaRRiya aazhi vallaanukkup, paLLaaNdu kooRuthumE.

 

We and all our family members need to serve Thee and

hence, we have undergone SamasrayaNam (in which we

have been given ChakrA (that has been placed on fire

and is red luminous in color) on our shoulder to mark

ourselves as Srivaishnavas to serve You. [While

singing about the mark on shoulders, AzhwAr remembers

the shoulders that got cut by Him- When thousand

shouldered baaNAsuran (for obstructing the marriage of

Usha and Aniruddhan- KrishNA's grandson) fought with

KrishNA, with the support of even Rudran, SubramaNian

and Vinayaka, they were all conquered effortlessly by

KrishNA and were chased away..AzhwAr here infers that

if one does not undergo this ChakrA marking on his or

her shoulders, he is like that bAaNAsuran ]

 

Let us sing pallAdnu to Him who cut asunder the 1000

shoulders of BaaNAsuran with his resplendent shining

Divine ChakrA - the river of blood flowing from the

cut shoulders! (ChakrA on the shoulders for marking

Srivashnava and the eternal servitude to Him on one

side; ChakrA for the 1000 shoulders for the enemy too

for punishment)

 

AzhwAr syas here -aazhi vallAnukku- the One who can

effortlessly send this divine Great chakra and utilize

the same.
