Dearest all,

 

Let us continue to enjoy Thirumangai AzhwArs wonderful

verses on Thiruvenkatamudaiyaan. Now after

ThirukkuRunthANdakam, let us enjoy three verses of

ThirunedunthANdakam.. verse no 8,9 and 16th. All these

three verses refer to ThiruvEnkatam.

 

kalayaami kalidhvamsam kavim lOkadhivaakaram

yaSya kObi: prakaaSaabir aavidhyam niHatham thama:

 

I meditate on the Poet, who is like the Sun for the

whole world, to destroy the darkness of ignorance

(a~jnAnam) with his word and who destroys the Kali

dhOsham.

 

Today’s verse is no 16 of ThirunedunthANdakam.

 

kanRumEyth thinithugandha kaaLaay! enRum,

kadipozhilsoozh kaNapuratthen kaniyE! enRum,

manRamarak kootthaadi magizhndhaay! enRum,

vadathiruvENG kadammEya maindhaa! enRum,

venRasurar kulangaLaindha vEndhE! enRum,

viripozhilsooz thirun^aRaiyoor ninRaay! enRum,

thunRukuzhal karun^iRatthen thuNaiyE enRum

thuNaimulaimEl thuLisOrach sOrkin RaaLE! 16

 

Verse 15.Mother’s description of her daughter’s

obsession with the Archa Murthys of Kacchi

Varadarajan, ThiruvEnkatam, Thirupparkadal Lakshmi

Naarayanan(Vyuha Vasudevan) and Therazhundur Aamuruvi

appan.

 

When AzhwAr enters into the naayikA bhaavam, sometimes

she takes the role of mother of Nayaki and laments at

her daughter’s pitiable position anguishing for the

Lord… Other verses are sung as if the girl friend of

Parakala nayaki sings… This verse is sung in tehr ole

of Mother..

 

This also reflects us to enjoy the verse on

ThirukkaNNapuram verse: PTM 8.2.6 – where in the

mother says: My daughter claims: We have come here to

stay at this place of ThirukkaNNapuram from the

northern Thirumalai. The little girl of yesterday- the

most beautiful feminine one- my darling daughter- what

all she is saying and longing for Emperumaan! What

does Emperumaan do to her? This Lord- who had enjoyed

uniting with the cowherd women at Thurvaayarpaadi- for

Him, this poor small, young girl (pEthai-seven year

old?)- What will she do? What is the use of His

stealing away her sleep?

 

What a beautiful verse!
