I have attached an article form The Hindu

referred to in a sister list .

 

This article is about Dr. Kannan Swamy ,

Prochancellor of the University of Hyderabad

and one of the top most Research Scientists in

Mathematics , the queen of Sciences .

 

He is the winner of the most Prestigious RaamAnujam Prize in

Mathematics and is a renowned Researcher in Mathematical

Sciences .

 

He comes from one of the villages most reputed for

its Ubhaya VedAntha Scholars steeped in the study

and dissemination of Bhagavath RaamAnuja SiddhAntham.

This village is NavalpAkkam near Kaanchipuram and is known

for Vedic scholars , Aagamaa experts and Ahnikam

authorities , who have kept our Vedic traditions alive for centuries .

 

The watch word of the citizens of this noble village is:

" DharmO Viswasya Jagatha: prathishDaa ". The title of

"ChathurvEdha Sathakrathu " sits easily with these NaavalpAkkam

Swamys such as Sri Yaj~na VarAhAcchAr Swamy , Sri VaradAcchAr

Swamy and many Mahaa Vidhvaans linked to this villge .

 

Dr. Kannan Swamy maintains the strictest standards of AachAram

and anushtAnam ,while holding one of the highest academic positions

in a prestigious Universty in India . He does not travel overseas and

uses well water in his house .

 

His is an extraordinary and exemplary life worthy of emulation !

 

I am priveleged to know him and he has given me permission to

translate his postings on "Sri Lakshmi Sahasram " , a great kaavyam

by Sri ArasANippAlai VenkatAdhvari Kavi . His postings appear in

Sri RanganATa Paadhuka Magizine belonging to Srimath Srirangam

Andavan Aasramam .

 

It is important for us to stop for a minute and reflect on great , exemplary souls

like Professor KaNNan Swamy , who pursue intellectual pursuits relating to

Modern Science at its cutting edge , while steeped in the observance of ancient values

of our Rishis , AchAryaas and AazhwArs . Quitely , they lead spiritually rich

and fulfilled lives and serve their communities so very well .They live amidst

the buzzle of modern cities with all its miseries and yet have their deep roots

in places like NaimichAraNyam (NaavalpAkkam) known for the assembly of great seers .

The " maddening crowds " of an urban environment do not faze them

since they are steeped in the tranquility and comfort of our Vedic dharmams .

These Mahaans go about their lives with the conviction of the mantrams of

Sri NaarAyaNa Hrudhayam :

thaavath siddhir-bhavEth saadhyaa sarvadhaa sarvadhaa VibhO

Only a small correction. The reporter mistook the yellow SrIchUrNam and thirumaNN on his forehead to be sandalwood paste.
