Dear Aall

Something serious need to be done to counter the measures taken by the TN Govt to permit any one from any religion to become a priest in our sacred temples

Srijayanti next month

Dear All Krishna BhakthAs :

It is my pleasure to share with you the mail sent to me by

Sriman Govindarajan Swamy of MadhurAnthakam , currently

teaching Sanskrit at Oman .He has been kind enought to point

out the various days on which different SampradhAyins celebrate .

Please Follow your KulaachAram and Your Achaarya Paramaparai's

guidelines .

I will add here some background material on Sri Jayanthi

and focus on Sri VaishNavite tradition in observing Sri Jayanthi

and particularly in Ahobila Matam .

1. Lord Krishna is saluted as " Jayanthi sambhavam dhAma "

in Sri GopAla Vimsathy's first slOkam .Please refer to the e-book

in Sundarasimham web site for detailed commentary on the Vaibhavam of

Sri Gopaalan , who incarnated on the day in which KrishNa paksha ashtami

is united with RohiNi nakshathram during the AavaNi month:

" RohiNee sahithaa SrAvaNa maasasya KrishNAshtami " .

The PourANikaas explain why the name Jayanthi is associated with

the avathAra dinam of our Lord :

" Jayam PuNyam cha tanuthE jayantheem tEna thAmm Vidhu: "

This auspicious day gives both victory ( Jayam) and PuNyam.

When we say Sri Jayanthy , it only refers to KrishNa Jayanthy .

All the other Jayanthis have to be qualified as Sri Nrusimha

Jayanthi , Varaaha Jayanthy etc. For all except Sri Jayanthy ,

thithi is PradhANam ( e.g: Raama Navami) .

Sri Jayanthy is observed acording to Souramaanam and not on

the Lunar ( Chandramaana) calendar . Hence , Sri Jayanthy is

celebrated in Simha ( AavaNi ) Maasam .There are different

opinions on the day of celebration between Munithraya SampradhAyins

and Sri Matam SampradhAyins . Please refer to Sriman Govindarajan's

comments below on the dates of celebration of Sri Jayanthy and

follow your AchArya paramparai .

The importance is the day selected for Sri Jayanthy should be totally

devoid of Sapthami (Thithi) and Krithtikai ( adjascent Nakshathram) .

It should be a Siuddha Ashtami. If such a date is not available ,

then one can celebrate on Navami with Suddha RohiNi.JanmAshtmi

Vratham (GokulAshtami) is not rcommended for celebration by VaishNavAs.

The sankalpam for upavAsam after daily Aaradhanam during the day is :

Sri BhagavdhAj~nyaa Sriamn NaarayaNa preethyarTam SrI Jayantheem

upOkshya , ParaNAm karishyE ".

In the evening , one performs Saayam sandhyaa , the sargam from

BhAgavatham dealing with Sri KrishNAvathAram is recited .Pravachanam

can also be done . At night , one does the ThiruvArAdhanam for PerumAL

at Vrushabha lagnam ( mid night usually) . PaaraNai is completed afterwards.

The Sankalpam for AarAdhanam is:

Sri Jayanthy VisEshArAdhanam karishyE .

During mantrAsanam section of the AarAdhanam , recitation should be :

LokanATAya KrishNasya jayanthee SamupAgathaa

or

Sree Jayanthee puNya kaala karthavya Sri KrishNArAdhanam karishyE

Argya DhAnam is done by Munithraya SampradhAyins with coconut water for

Chandran and KrishNan . Sri Matam SampradhAyins do not perform the arghya

pradhAnam .

There are manthrams for aavAhanam and UpasthAnam for Chandran and KrishNan .

Arghyam is performed for KrishNan during ParyAngaasanam time.Munithraya

SamprafdhAyins perform Aaradhanam next morning and then complete their PaaraNai.

Sri Matam sampradhAyins conclude the PaaraNai after conclusion of

the midnight AarAdhanam ( uthsavAnthE PaaraNAm karishyE ) .

Have a delightful Sri Jayanthy ,

V.Sadagopan

Original Note from Sriman Govindarajan Swamin:

***************************************************

" Dear Swamin, Kindly note that the Janmashtami that falls tomorrow (16-08-06) is only for

Smarthas and north Indians.

Srivaishnavas celebration will be on other two days :

1) Munithraya Srijayanti will be on Madhyashtami day i.e. 14th September 2006 Thursday.

2) Sri Ahobila Math Sampradaya sishyas celebration will be on 15th September 2006 Friday.

Tennacharya Sampradaayains follow Pancharathra Srijayanti. So it will be on Friday 15th September 2006.

Note: Those who perform Madhyashtami* from Munithrya Sampradaya sishyas should perform it on Bharani Day i.e. 12th September 2006 instead of 14th September 2006. It is not correct to perform Madhyashtami Tarpanam on Srijayanthi day. Kindly also inform others.Sishyas of Srimad Ahobila Muth can perform Srijayanti on 14th September 2006 since they celebrate Srijayanthi on next day ".
