Dearest all,

In the post -Desika period, extending over six

centuries, Srivaishnavism as it is popularly known,

has developed thus as two parallel lines, one sect

owing its allegiance to Swamy Desikan and the other to

Sri Manavala MaamunigaL, observes Sri SMS Chari in his

wonderful book on Vaishnavism.

We have seen in the last post the thennAcharya

paramparai from Ramanujacharya upto Sri Manavala

Maamuni and subsequent acharya/ mathams as well. [as

enlisted by Sri TA Varadhan Swami].

Before diving into asmadhAchAryan paramparai in Sri

Poundarikapuram Andavan Ashrama, let me mention about

Sri Ahobila Mutt and Sri Parakalamutt.

Sri Vadakku thiruveedhi Pillai’s sishya was

Srirangachar. Srirangachar’s sishya was Sri KesavAchAr

and he is the AchArya for Sri AdhivaN SatakOpar- the

sthPakar of Sri Ahobila Mutt (please see Sri

Parthasarathy Dileepan’s web page Sri Ahobila Mutt

Home page – http://www.ahobilamutt.org ) and enjoy the

rich, deep content. Pay your obeisance to Praritham

Jeer, His Holiness Srimad Azhagiya Singar 45th Pattam

who adorns the Peetam of Sri Ahobila Mutt.

Sri Ahobila Mutt Paramparai: [after Sri

Ramanujacharya]

Bhagavad Ramanujacharya

Srimath Embar

Srimath Parasara Bhattar

Srimath Nanjeeyar

Srimath Nampillai

Srimath Vadakku Thiruveedi Pillai - Sri

Pillailokacharyar's father and Acharyan]

Srimath Srirangachariyar

Srimath Kesavachariyar

Srimath Kamalavasar

Srimath Kesacvachariyar

Srimath AthivaNN satakopan

Sri AdhivaNN SatakOpar also comes in the AchArya

paramparai of every one of us in Munitraya sampradaym

as well, as he had attended KalakshEpam and studied

SriBhashyam, Bhagavad Vishayam from GhatikAsatham

ammAL [also in Muitraya acharya paramparai], but has

been initiated by Swami Kesavachar from whom he learnt

Rahasyaarthams.

Thus, Bhagavad Vishaya / Kalakshepa paramparai for Sri

Ahobila Muth sishyas:

Bhagavad Ramanujacharya

Thiru Kurugaipiran Pillan

Srimath Engalazhvan

Srimath Nadadur Ammal

Srimath Appullar

Swami Sri Desikan

Sri Nayinarachariyar

Sri Brahma Thanthra Swathanthra Swami

Gadikasatam Ammal

Srimath Athivan satakopan

Thus the Vadakalai sect has had a long line of

successions of acharyas and two important mathams or

religious centers among them that came into existence

known as Ahobila Matham and Parakala Matham- both

headed by eminent ascetics [sanyaasis] for the

propogation of Ramanuja darshanam as propounded by

Swami Nigamantha Maha Desikan.

There is another line of acharyas which is also

avvicchinnam [uninterrupted] from Desikan through

Thirukkudanthai Desikan to present day acharyas,

called as Srimad Andavan Ashramam and other glorious

Swamacharyas.

Thus Parakala matham was established by Sri Parakala

Brahmathanthra Swathanthra Jeer Swamy –a Primary

disciple of Swamy Desikan and as per Swamy Desikan’s

niyamanam. Swamy also had a son NainAchAryar (Sri

Kumara Varadacharyar), who is in our AchArya lineage

in Bagavath vishaya paramparai, as Brahmathanthra

Swamy did his kaalakshEpam of Bhagavath Vishyam only

from NainAchAryar. He chose to learn from Swamy’s son

as he desired to have Swamy’s son also as his

Acharyan. What a guNA of Brahmathanthra Jeer Swamy!

(Please browse the excellent website on Sri

Parakalamutt- http://www.parakalamatham.org

and enjoy the beautiful darshan of Sri Lakshmi

Hayagrivan and Srimad Abhinava vAgheesa Brahma

Thanthra ParakAla Swami (The Prakritam Jeer Swami- The

present Pontiff of the Mutt.)

Let us enjoy Munithraya sampradaya vaibhavam next.

Acharyan ThiruvaDigaLE SaraNam

Regards

Namo narayana
