Swamy Desikan in His Ahaara Niyamam Sri Sookthi has instructed us

(some 700 years ago) on the unsuitabilit y of seceral kinds of milk

for a VaishNavan leadign Saatvic life .

 

Goat milk is one of the items that is not recommended .

 

The others are : Milk from one hoofed animals ( Horse , Donkey )

the cow with two calves ,Camel milk , Milk mixed with salt ,

the breast milk from ladies , milk of cow which has lost its embryo ,

MIlk from cow that has lost its calf , MIlk obtined from milking a cow

with the calf of another cow , from the Cow that bears the names or

signs ( chinnams) of DevathAntharams , GOAT's Milk , milk acquired

from Brahmins for a price , Milk stored in a copper vessel and the burnt milk from

efforts to heat the milk .

Goat's milk

 

Our father of the Nation "Mahathma Gandhi" used to drink Goat's milk early in the morning. He claimed Goat's milk gave him the strength in the freedom struggle to drive the British out of India. Goat's milk is poised to have a comeback as a healthful dairy alternative to cow's milk. It has been used for years as an alternative for babies who can't tolerate cow's milk, but now it's entering the mass market with items such as goat milk butter. One of the main benefits to goat's milk is that it contains more of the essential fatty acids than cow's milk, which may make it more readily digested. People who can't tolerate cow's milk, can usually tolerate this kind of milk.

 

Can Srivishnavas consume Goat's milk? Does our poorva Acharyas allow it's consumption.
