Guest guest
Respected Swamin, Following performance of an 'apara karyam', generally it is suggested that for one year the 'karta' and their family should not perform .mangala karyams. What is the actual position as set out by 'dharma sastrams' since different things are suggested by people: 01. Whether karta family should not go to any temple/divyadesam 02. whether the restriction is applied only to temples in Hill centres or all centres ? 03. If only to hill centres what is the significance 04. Whether 'kolam' should not be put on the entrance of the karta's house - what is the significance 05.If there are brothers for karta - whether all the restrictions will apply to them equally - including their family members or the restrictions will apply only to karta who is actually performing 06. Even it is said that 'no kumkum' or 'vetrilai paakku' should not be given by them to the visitors which is normally done in our families. What is the position on this Kindly clarify the above points. Adiyen Daasan Nandakumar ***Modr*** Dear Respected member, Thanks for the chance given to me to clarify. Because this is an important matter which all should basically know about. * Prayoga Sastram has been written according to Dharma Sastram by some Rishis. * Apasthambar's formula (Prayoga Sastram) is for one part of Krishna Yajur vedins. * Drahyayanar's formula is for one part of Sama Vedins * Bhodhayanar's formula is for another part of Krishna Yajur vedins. * Asvalayanar's formula is for one part of Rig vedins. So, the followers of the respected rishis are following the formula given by him. * All these formula have been written time immemorial. Now we are coming to the subject. As per all the rishis, the 'Sapindikaranam' which we are doing now in the twelfth day should be performed only on the exact thithi which comes in the next year same month same paksham. (It will be about 331 days to 389 days approximately). Till that the soul will be in the stage of 'Pretham'. (I should give explanation about another 2o pages to clear it.) The Kartha who is doing the 'Pretha karma' is not eligible to enter in temples. Because anybody gets the 'theetu' whenever they use the 'Pretha sabhtham' or even hear it. Later an issue arised that, 'Even a kartha would die before completing the pretha karma that he started earlier' According to Rishis, " A person who drops a karma in the middle will get 10 times paabham than the one who does not do the karma at all. " So, considering the fact that the human life is not guaranteed for such a long period (one year), we should make it (Sapindikaranam) to be done at the earliest possible day. The First 11 day ceremony will not be curtailed at any reason, so, Rishis decided that the 12th day is the earliest possible day to do it. So, we are doing it on twelfth day and making the soul as 'Pithru' on 12th day itself, and hence there is no 'Pretha sabhtham' there after, so he is eligible to enter in the temples. Though the 'Sapindikaranam' has been done, still the karma is pending upto the end of first year apthikam. Just the way of doing Karma is changed from 'pretha karma' to 'pithru karma'. As per sastram, a person who is having pending with a sankalpam to complete a task or karma should not enter into a new application (sankalpam). So,if we go to temple what we will do? we will do Archana on our name which is a new sankalpam. Only that type of activities are restricted. i.e, doing anything to get some palan for himself(kartha), like enjoyments, treats, pilgrimage tour etc. So, the ancestors restricted only temples in the hill, because nobody will climb the hill without a sankalpam on those days. Because walking is the only mode of transport on those days. By now you might have got the idea behind it. Now answer point by point. 01. Whether karta family should not go to any temple/divyadesam Ans:- Karthas family can go to any temple without expecting any punya palan. 02. whether the restriction is applied only to temples in Hill centres or all centres ? Ans:- No, it is common for all temples, if you are able to go to the hill station temple without expecting any punya palan you can go there also. 03. If only to hill centres what is the significance Ans:-The significance already explained. 04. Whether 'kolam' should not be put on the entrance of the karta's house - what is the significance Ans:- It is upto you, that how you (the kartha) feel(s) that 'we should not celebarate anything upto the apthikam. Also it is an indication to others, that this house is in 'dhukkam'. So that, elders are shouting on us (our sisters) to put the 'Kolam' everyday early morning. 05.If there are brothers for karta - whether all the restrictions will apply to them equally - including their family members or the restrictions will apply only to karta who is actually performing Ans:- All brothers born to a father (even for different mother) are all called as Kartha. The eldest one is called as 'Mukya kartha'. So, everything is applicable for all including their wives. 06. Even it is said that 'no kumkum' or 'vetrilai paakku' should not be given by them to the visitors which is normally done in our families. What is the position on this Ans:- The reason of giving " Thamboolam " by a Sumangali to a visitor sumagali is " You also should enjoy the 'sowmangalyam' which I now enjoying in this my house, and also you should bless me as 'this stage' (sowmangalyam) should be there for me upto the end of my life. " So, the above request will be meaningless when a lady in 'Dhukkam' giving 'Thaamboolam'. I had typed the answer, and posted it, I hade not rechecked it for any correction. I hope and believe that there will be no conflict in the meaning or idea or 'Karuththu'. But there may be several mistakes in, subject and predicates and spellings. Sorry for the errors found if any. But I expect some response comments about it. Thank you very much. Best regards, ***Modr***
