Guest guest
Dear Mama, Your answers regarding dharma sastram are quite interesting. One thing I have been noticing and now confirmed by you is that the sastram is an ancient prescription by rishis quite relevant in times when they were prescribed. As times are changing, people are also talking of yuga dharmam, kala dharmam and desa acharam, etc. In fact some one said to me that if a person dies in India, his relatives living far away, like America need not even follow the 'Theettu' prescription. I would therefore request you to consider whether the 'dharma sastrathai valaindhu koduppathu saridhana'. Appadiyanal, etharku konjam follow panrom and meethiyai vittuvidugirom. Enakku romba nala intha santhekangal. Can you pl. clarify. Another thing, kovillukku porathu, perumal sevaikkaga mattum. Silar perumalai sila kariyangalukkaga vendikkolgirargal. Ithil, punyam engirunthu varum. I always think that going to temples is to cultivate bhakthi and not for punyam or any material thing. What bhagavan wants to give he will give whether we go to temples or not. Templekku va enru allathu templekku po enro engayavathu solliyirukkinratha? I amay be pardoned if I sounded strange. But my conviction is that we should not do anything seeking palan or punyam or do anything that will get us papam. We should carry on our duties as ordained and as per our family traditions in the way our forefathers have been doing, to the best of our capacity without even questioning the logic or reason or rhyme for it. Onething I want to clarify at first: Asking questions are not sin. No where in the dharma sastram stressed it. Instead, the whole dharma sastram itself given as as discussion between risis. The dharma sastram will be given as : Bhodhayanare:- ..... Manuve:- ... Yankyavalkyar:- ... Yaman:- .... So, for every subject and for its inner subdivision details the views of all rishis will be given one by one. They will be almostly same with some practical application changes. And also our sampradyam is stressing everybody to ask more and more questions to get 'gnanam'. We can take the sayin " do not ask questions " in two way: 1. You should have a complete belief on the matter what our ancessetors did. 2. I cant tell you the reason or significance now because this is not the correct situvation or I don't know about it. So, you can ask questions about dharma sastram to the person who is willing to say it with authority or with eveindences and proof. The one valkyam I wish to say about vaideekam (which I am using every where), " Sastram means 100% logic, if you here somthing without logic in the name of sastram, do not believe it, ask him to show the proof immediately. You believe it, if there is a 'pakka' logic. " Let it be. Now regarding going to temple, your views are very very correct, but there is some difference of views. i.e, dharma sastram is not always rigid (valaindhu kodukkalama? you have mentioned), it is very very flexible. For example: Getting 'Dhanam' from sombody will not only gain the material and money but also some amount of 'Dhosham / Pabham'. The amount of Pabham is not always same for all persons and in all situvations. If a person who taken the dhanam is very poor, the amount of dhosham will be very very less vize versa. One story you may hered or not: " Once a mahan (Parameyagandhi) had got in trouble in a forest. He was verymuch struggling with hungry (pasi) because he was in the forest for past one week, that day a 'Paagan' on an elephant came there, he was eating (biting) 'Kamban kali' in one hand, and drinking water from a 'Sura kudukkai' in other hand. This mahan begged him some 'kali' to eat by telling his stage. He gave a big ball of kali which he tasted with his tounge. This mahan ate it. The 'paagan' offered him some water to him, but the mahan refused it and told that is " echchal " . The Paagan asked, what swami, 'kali'yum echchaldhane, why you have not refused it? The mahan said, that 'Sastram says when you are in 'praana aapathu' it is not sin eating 'echchal''. Now I am having a little strengh to search for water without 'echchal', if I drink the water in this stage that is dhosham as per sastram. So, the view is diferent according to situation also. The first aim is bringing people to temple at any reason; after getting 'gnanam' they will turnup automatically. Also, bhagavan (vishnu) is giving everything what we want, but he only refuses the things which are not actually good for us. At the same time, all other devadas are not thinking our goodness, they will give anything we want, if they are satisfied with our bhakthi. This is a very very very very .... huge subject and very very difficult to understand its significance. Let us discuss step by step, I have to write an exam on " Vaishnavism " on 30 April, 1, 2nd may, I am preparing for that. Details will be given later. Best regards, Yours ever Deevalur N.V.Srinivasan ***Modr***
