It was a very good reply to the query put, considering the nature of questions put.Our “gruha bruhaspathi” was Late Shri.Rengappa Iyengar Swami of Srirangam.He used to put a lot of emphasis on the rituals to be performed after death.We as children used to ask a lot of questions as to why these are performed.Were he alive today, he would be so happy to know that some one who is practising "Upaadhyaayam" is taking pains to make the world know by explaining what is in the scriptures, which mandates the performance of this rituals. Also, when adn why should one do the "subha sweekaram"?Does it validate the "karthaas" to go to the temple? Please explain. Adiyen do not contribute anything to this August group., because, adiyen do not know enough. But somebody with Dhevareer's capacity/credentials is fully qualified to write on the requirements, about "Pithru kaaryam" in detail for agnaanis like me to know. Adiyen ha(ve?)s been out of India for 5 years now, and in the Middle east,(Dubai) and in a Country, where practicing any religion other than Islam is officially taboo,(but there are no restrictions to have discourses, bhajans etc) and where there is no place to perform”obsequies” as we have back in India, its hard to convince the younger generation here on the performance of such rituals like “ maasappirappu tharpanam/amaavasyai tharpanam,yEkaadasi vradham etc.,Sandhyaavandhanam etc. Because, these children, fed on western education and “soaps and serials” want a scientific explanation for anything and everything.Neither we know,nor there is enough time to explain them, as “laukeeka” compulsions take toll of our available time totally. In this (p)light, It would be of a yeoman service, to explain these rituals ( may be with a little contemporary explanation) so that these children have some thing to learn /refer, readily. ‘Hope you consider adiyen’s appeal. Before I close, Vradham does spell better than Virudham. Swamin is absolutely right, and “put” and “but” have the same “u” but pronounced differently.But, English is a phonetic language, and so, except for proper English words, its better to spell words of other languages to spell, as they sound.,even though English has limitations to spell thamizh words like yEn?(for why) and we cant differentiate between “poithadhu”(it turned out a lie) and “poivittadhu”(its gone) unless we differentiate the “nedil” in “poivittadhu” with another o or a (as in english words coach and poach)or as commonly used in different discussional fora, by using ‘Caps’ to mean the “nedil” of the letter.So, you may begin to consider “vradham” instead of “virudham” AdiyEn VaasudEvan.
