Dear Devalur Swamigal,

I had gone abroad in the month of Oct 2004 and after few days my one of the

sumbandi died in chennai. Being away I could not attend any of the ceremonies. I

was told that after 6 months and if there is rain u can meet the nearest

relatives especially my son-in-law and daughter. Now a question arises where I

have been put an embarassing situation according to which my mother-in-law says

that I should not see my son-in-law and daughter on 6-06-2005 (being monday). I

have booked air ticket for self and wife to mumbai where my daughter and

son-in-law live. Is there any alternative. Of course I have my brothers

/brother-in-law in mumbai.

In the normal conditions it is accepted that we should be very meticulous.I

cannot wound the feelings of my daughter/son-in-law and I am also one of the

important persons in their family.

How long I can post-pone seeing them when tickets are not available when ever we

want.

Please throw some light.

Thanks

Yours faithfully,

n s sampath.

Dear Sir,

I went through your message, I feel sorry to say, that people are following the

mere statements

without any proof. There is no such sastram or even sampradhayam. There is a

formality ( not sampradayam), avoiding monday and 9th day to enquire about

'Thukkam'. (Within 10 days)

The fun is, it is not at all 'Thukkam' as per our esteemed sampradayam, after

the 'Subha sweekaram' had been done on the 13th day.

Actually, we should never say it as 'Thukkam' as per Sri Vaishnava Sampradayam,

because our sampradayam is not considering the death as 'Maranam' and it is

mentioned as 'Acharyan Thiruvadiyadaithal'. It means being there in the Moksham

without taking rebirth.

The word Maranam will be suitable for persons who belive rebirth.

So, the ball is in your court.

It is a huge subject.

Due to the examinations, I was not able to attend the mail in time, and in

detail.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
