Guest guest
dasan! how do u write in Tamil? i wud like to use the same software/font and converse in Tamil Ilayavilli S Boovarahan ***MDR*** If you have downloaded the fonts available in our group and website. You can install it to your fonts folder by unzipping the fonts into any folder of your computer, then go to control panel and then open the fonts folder, under the file menu there is an option called 'install new fonts' if you click that menu it will prompt you to open the folder where your new fonts have been stored. You just open that folder in that dialog box, it will automatically list all the fonts found in that folder. In the right hand side, there will be a tab called 'select all', click that tab to select all fonts and then click OK . Now the new fonts have been installed into your system. You can find 'suntommy' as one of the font in those list. Here after you can type in tamil using any word processing software like : Winword; pagemaker or even in notepad. You should select the 'suntommy' font from that application. I am using 'mozilla thunderbird' as my email program. You can choose the font to type the matter in tamil in that software, I hope outlook express also having this feature. No special software is needed to use true type fonts. It will work in almost all applications. The fonts will be available in the 'fonts' folder under 'windows' folder. I hope the above explanation is enough about using ttf fonts. Even *.ttf fonts will work by just copying them from any where and pasting them in the fonts folder under windows. I request all members to install the tamil fonts into your system, to read my future mails about divyadesa yathra and vaishnavism. Guest guest
Although I have suntommy fonts installed, i find it difficult to key in Tamil words properly. With Kural soft I can type using the phonetic keyboard. i don' t know which key to press to get a particular alphabet. Dasan Ilayavilli s Boovarahan ***Mdr*** It is very easy to practice Tamil Typing. Go to Winword opn a new document choosse the font 'suntommy' from format -> font menu character size may 10 or 12 If your keyboard is in caps lock remove caps lock Now start typing (use any finger to type) from the top corner key i.e, from tilde, 1, 2, 3 ... it will give you the corresponding tamil letters for that keys. Press a key then press tab to get space between letters and give two enters between every line. Continue to do this procedure for all the four rows of keys in without pressing the shift or without caps lock. Now do the same procedure with pressing the shift key. Care, do not use the caps lock instead of pressing the shift key. Now go to the end of the top line with tamil characters. Put enter, Change the font to Arial or Times new roman or any english font. Type every character of the first row in english. Do the same procedure for all the four rows, now you will get the character map for all keys. You can cut every Tamil letter and paste it in your key board without hiding the english letters. You can learn typing tamil, now by seeing the keyboard. also you can use the Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tolls -> Chracter Map to check which key is associated with which character. To help members not waste their times to make this map, I myself did it, and I am sending the key map as jpg in another mail. Use it and start typing in Tamil ***MDr***
