i have a doubut reg avaniavittam. request you to

kindly clarify

during kandarishi tharpanam, devatha tharpanam etc.,

we are reuired to use rice and for pithru devatha

tharpanam we are required to use thilam. i notice that

brihaspathis advise to mix thilam and rice together

and use it. is it right to use rice and thilam for the

tharpanams even if parents are alive.? if in the same

house father and son are performing avani avittam

should we use rice for the rishi, devatha tharpanam

and thialm separately for pithru devatha tharpanam

eithot mixing them.

***Adiyen,

Many times I had clarifed this question, again for members :

All the tharpanam we are doing on Upakarma are only to rushis and their pithrus,

not for our pithrus.

Also when doing tharpanam to one's direct pithrus, then the manthram should be

included with the " Gothram, Sharma Vasu Roopaya /Rudhra roopaya / Adhithya

roopaya - 'Asmath' (my) pithrun swatha namas tharpayami " . If not having the

above line it will not indicate your father or grand father or grandgrand

father.

So, no problme using mixed rice and thilam to do tharpanam.

The sankalpam for " Sama Upakarma " is very clear in this regard.

It says: " ... deva rushi pithru preethyartham, deva rushi pithru tharpanam

karishye! "

The only thing, some tharpanams with praachinaaveedhi are not required to be

done by the 'Jeeva pithrus' (who is having father).
