Guest guest
Dear Sri VAsu VAdhyAr, respected members The view I had heard on this was that according to Vedam and dharmashaastram, offerings to ancestors is a " naimittika karma " i.e. a required act according to Vedic dharma, so it shouldn't be given up, whether the pitrus are in moksham or not. Again I may have misunderstood so please correct my mistakes. However at least from a Vaishnava perspective, I understand that such acts are not so much seen as offerings to please the pitrus, instead they are offerings to their antaryAmin, srIman nArAyaNa, on whom their existence rests. So perhaps when we do offerings to pitrus etc., we are 1) fulfilling the vedic requirement to perform these acts, and 2) keeping our pitrus as the focus through which we worship srIman nArAyaNa yet again - since all the offerings ultimately go to him. In Bhagavad Gita, I think Krishna says " those who worship the pitrus go to the world of the pitrus " - so rather than worship the pitrus themselves, we still focus on worshipping parabrahman through them. Thirdly, it also helps in a psychological sense in that we can remember our dear departed relatives and their time with us. sarvAparAdhAn kshamasva, with praNAmams, namo nArAyaNAya Ranjan PS: question: I remember one post in this group a while back clarifying the sankalpam for upaakarma, in which it stated that in fact we are not offering to the pitrus, but the deva/rishi pitrus - i.e. devatas " in the place of " our ancestors or the ancestors of the devas and rishis themselves. So are we actually offering to devatas, not our pitrus? vaideekam , " g_madhvan " <g_madhvan> wrote: > > ---I am not able to see the attachment > > ***Use the below url to see that attachment > http://www.ahobilam.com/temp/why2do%20chradham.JPG > *** > > > In vaideekam , Kendram Sri Vaishnava <svknvs@g...> > wrote: > > > > Dear members go through the attachment in Tamil > > And kindly send your reply on or before 8th December, > > It is to collect the various ideas and opinion about the subject and > to > > finalise the one. > > I expect all members will reply for this request. > > VAsu VAdhyAr > > >
