Dear VAsu VAdhyAr swAmi, Sri Kesavan swAmi,

 

I couldn't read the Devanagari version properly - some

characters seemed to be incorrect. If this is useful, please share

it with the group: here is an " itrans " style transliteration with

english translation of what VAsu mAma wrote. VAsu mAma, please check

for any mistakes.

 

sprinkle water on rice, reciting:

 

oM bhuur bhuvas suvaH..

 

sprinke water around the leaf, reciting:

 

satyam tvaa R^itena parishinchaami

(night time: R^tam tvaa satyena parishinchaami)

 

sprinkle water again on rice. Then with a small amount of water in

the palm, recite:

 

amR^itopastaraNam asi

 

and sip the water. Then, for each one of the below manthrams,

ingest a few rice grains, without them touching the teeth:

 

oM praaNaaya svaahaa

oM apaanaaya svaahaa

oM vyaanaaya svaahaa

oM udaanaaya svaahaa

oM samaanaaya svaahaa

oM brahmaNe svaahaa

(some also recite: oM govindaaya svaahaa)

 

brahmaNime aatmaa amR^itatvaaya

 

(my grandfather would recite 'shrii govindaaya namaH' here)

Sip some of the water and drop the rest around the leaf.

 

I hope this is correct. My cousin's upanayanam is next month, so I

was preparing these manthrams and other things for him in English

(he was born and brought up in the USA).
