A doubt

Swamy. Adiyen has two doubts. My father's annual srardham falls on

23.6.2006 - Krishna paksha tryayodasi. Since my elder brother's son has

got a daughter, I have 'theettu' and it is over on 24th June. The

vathiyars at Chennai and also the vathiyar whom I contacted through

Srimathandavan Ashram of Chennai, said that the in such 'theettu' cases

the srardham should be done only on the day it gets relieved

irrespective of thithi, day etc. But the vathiyar who regularly comes

to our house in Bangalore said that since the thithi on 24th is

chathurthi, Srardham should be done only on Amavasai on 25th. This is

stoutly refuted by Chennai vathiyars. We want to follow what the family

vathiyar and Ashram vathiyar says and peform it on 24th ie. the day

the 'theettu' goes.

Incidentally, since the next day (25th) is amavasya, should I perform

both 'pareyhini' and 'amavasya' tharpanams or only 'pareyhini'

tharpanam.

May I request kind clarification early.

Well, the Chradham (shradham) should be done on the day on which the theetu get

releif. So, irrespective of the 'thithi' (whatever it may be) it should be done

on (24th in your case) 11th day in the case of a 10 day theetu, on 4th day in

the case of a three day theetu.

24th is not 'chathurthi' it should be spelled as 'chathurdasi'.

There is a meaning in the saying of Bangalore Bruhaspathi (Who Shri.Manavalan?),

Mahalaya chradham will be done only for sanyasis on chathurthasi. So, he might

have thought that it is better to avoid 'chathurthasi' thithi. But that rule is

applicable only for 'Mahalayam' not for regular shradhams. Then what about the

chradhams of persons doing on " Chadhurthasi " ?!

 

" Barehani " tharpanam can not be counted as a tharpanam, becaus it is a small

ending part of the chradham.

So, there is no question of skipping " Amavasya " tharpanam.
