Dear Mama, Your observations and the immediate comments my writing elicited from two members provoke me further to write this msg. Murugan, Sivan and Ganesha are no doubt Gods with divine powers and Vedas recognise homams and yagams to please them. In the Ramayana and other scriptures too, they are referred to as divine Beings. According to Sri Ramanuja's philosophy and teachings (he mostly relied on the teachings of all his Purvacharyas and Vedas only in this regard), Jivatma enters bodies that are fit enough for it to earn the joys and suffer the sorrows of all its previous births, in each birth, according to Paramatma's sankalpam while a birth in a body for a Jivatma takes place. Some enter the bodies (divine bodies) like Gods, Devas and other Deities and some enter human bodies, Gandharva bodies, plants, animals, insects, etc., etc. They are endowed with the powers required for growth in their respective

bodies by Paramatma (The concept of Paramatma as Sriman Narayanan only has been recognised also by Sri Adi Sankara in his commentary on the Brahma Sutras) and Murugan, Sivan and Ganesha discharge these divine powers given to them by Sriman Narayana. It is therefore clear that Sriman Narayana is the only Supreme God or Paramatma. There cannot be more than one as Supreme. We have enough of stories and anecdotes in Puranas and other Scriptures and Sthala Puranas stating that one or the other God or Deva came to the Earth to do penance to get rid of some curse or suffering. Any curse or suffering is not for the Jivatma, which is above all these curses or sufferings because of its essential nature of Consciousness, Bliss and Knowledge, but it is for the body in which the Jivatma lives for the time being in a particular birth. This means that Gods have specific bodies because they too had suffered at some time or other for their own

reasons and bodies have to come to an end some time or the other. They cannot therefore be called Eternal Gods. They are Gods in their present births. The Eternal God is the only one, and that is Sriman Narayana. Everyone knows that Lord Brahma came to the Earth to do penance as he was denited vision of Paramatma due to some act of his, which was due to Gunas afflicting his body, and the result was Paramatma gave him vision in the Earth, and further on Brahma's request agreed to stay in Kanchi to give darshan and bless all His devotees in Kali Yuga. The result is we have Varadaraja Perumal Koil there where Sri Ramanuja worshipped Him in the initial days of his spiritual life along with Thirukkachi Nambi who was said to be talking to the Perumal now and then. I do not mean to hurt anyone's feelings and respect all Gods as the Bhagavathas of Sriman Narayana as Sriman Narayana is the Antaryamin in all

Jivatmas born in the Earth or the other worlds above or below the Earth. In Bhagavatha, we note that Indra got offended because some particular worship was stopped for him at the intervention of Lord Krishna (Paramatma) to subdue his arrogance (arrogance and other feelings come only out of relationship with a body that is the combination of pancha bhuthas and three gunas) and we have the Govardhana Story. Devas and Gods by their nature are capable of being present anywhere they desire with as many bodies as they need for being present in as many locations as in which they are worshipped by their own devotees and this should not make any difference to call them as the Supreme Being because of that reason only. They can give boons and bless their devotees. And this too does not make any difference. Paramatma (Lord Sriman Narayana) showed his Viswa Roopam (in Bhagavad Gita) in which Arjuna saw the various Gods in His

Swarupam. Longevity of Devas and Gods is pretty long and goes to even millions of years and this long longevity also does not make any difference and cannot amount to their being called 'Eternal God". With kind regards, mama, Padmanabhan
