My lady colleague and a close family friend lost her husband 8 months back. My colleague does not have a son. Only a daughter. Her husband has a elder and one younger brother. During the 10th day rituals were performed by the younger brother. Every month the masiyam is being performed by the Vadyar by accepting a Darbai from the lady. Recently the younger brother suddenly expired. He has two sons, whose Upanayanam is yet to be done. Now the following doubts of my colleague requires to be answered, so as to enable her to complete the further masiyams and annual rituals. 1. Since the younger brother WHO ALSO HAPPENED TO BE THE KARTA FOR THE 10TH DAY rituals expired, is there a need for my colleague to continue her husbands rituals. If YES how. 2. The Upanayanam of the Younger brother's sons, has not taken place so far. How the rituals of 10th day and further are to be carried out. 3. There is also a VENDUDAL that Upanayanam of the sons will be performed at TIRUMALA. This may please be treated as urgent and immediately replied, so as to start the 10 th day rituals falling on 18-10-2006. Adiyen requests for early answer. VIJAYA RAGHAVAN *** Dear Sriman sri Sadagopachar swamin, thanks for your confident to refer me. There are three questions asked by sri Vijaya Raghavan. All can be cleared with only only one answer. Any person (any type of relation) by receiving the 'dharbai' from a lady or from a 'Anupaneethan' (boy without upanayanam) to perform a ritual (of any type) can not be considered as a permenent 'KARTHA' for that type of karma hereafter. He is only 'Kartha' for that particular period by wearing a 'Pavithram' made out of the 'dharbai' received from the real kartha who is not elegible to do that karma at that time. The 'Karthruthavam' is coming to end immediately after removing the pavithram at the end of that karma. For example a lady can request twelve different eligible persons to perform her husband's twelve masyams, if she is not able to keep the same person for all the masyams. The solution to perform the upanayanam of those boys in Tirumala : 1. They can perform it in local and take tha boys to Thirumala after the completion of 'Varushaapthikam'. This can be done by adding some penalty prarthana. 2. They can perform the maasyams with the help of others by giving 'dharbai' up to the end of 'Varushaapthikam' and then they go to Tirumala with the boys to perform their upanayanam. Further explanations can be given if required. nvs
