Guest guest
Dear Vasu Vadhyar, Namaskarams. Many thanks for re-posting the tharpanam audio. It is clear and very useful. Adiyen wants know the difference between oonams and maasiyams. When do Oonams and Maasiyams occur? Are some Oonams and Maasiams more important than others? Many thanks. Adiyen, Sridharan. *** Thanks for your thanks, The Manthrams and all other practical procedures for 'oonam' are very same as 'Masyam' except the name of the Chradham. The difference is only in the period when to do the Oonam and when to do the Masyam. Normally the word 'Oonam' denotes a thing which is not in full (Handicapped). Here also the name is applied for it for the same reason. Because all Masyam are performed strictly on the exact 'Thithi' of that person which occurs on every month. But the Oonam is calculated and formulated by 'Suthrakaarar' (Rushis) according to the pithru athma expectation. They (oonams) are four in numbers: The general condition to avoid oonams on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday if it possible. Also if it is possibe the Prthama Kartha Janma star also can be avoided to perform Oonams. Some more conditions also there but they will be very confusing and much important. 1. Aadhya Oonam --- to be performed after 27th day (including the day of death) and before the next thithi, usually which may occur in the 30th day. 2. Thraipakshika Oonam --- to be performed on or after 41st day and on or before the 45th day. 3. Oona Shaanmasikam --- to be performed on or after 171st day and before the 7th masyam thithi, which will usually falls on 178 -- 180th day. 4. Oona Apthikam --- to be performed between 341 to 355 days. all should be checked with the above given conditions before selecting the day. I hope it is enough. But you may make your question further specific about a thing. nvs
