Guest guest
Respected Sir, I want to have some doubts clarified. 1) For Sathabhishekam function, is it the custom and practice to make Thirumangalyam for the old couple. 2) Will the sathabhishekam function be preceded by Udhagashanthi - if so, the same day or the previous day. 3) Will you kindly provide me complete details of the rituals concerning Sathabhishekam. 4) For my good old grandparents, I want to lay emphasis on ritualistic aspects. Can you suggest a Vadagalai Vaadhiyar Swamy for this purpose. Kind Regards, Ms. S. Prasanna *** Respected Sri.Prasanna Swamin, pleasure to know about your interest in Vaideeka aspects. I feel it is my duty to clarify your doubts. Understand my answer is in the order of your questions : General : Sathabhishekam is not a Samskara Karma, it means it is not compelled by sastras to do. Ayushya Homam doing on any birth day is comes under Kamya karma which means we are doing karma by expecting some benefits out of it, like, strength, health, wealth, prosperity etc. So, usually this type of karmas will not be described in the vaideeka prayoga books. Some recently written books are adding these also. What I wish to point out is : As it is not a 'Samskara Karma', it does not require the same pattern every where. According to our capacity to spend for vaideekam we can increase the number ridhwiks (ridhwik means a swamin who is doing Japam and or Homam in a ritual). We can arrange for all four vedha paarayanams, Prapanda paarayanams, Ramayanam, Bhagavadha paarayanams etc. etc. These paaryanams can be started any number of days before the day of Sathabhishegam. The minimum japam required is 'Udhaka saanthi'. 1. Every year Sumangalies are changing the thread in the month of Maasi. If required for any reason changing it on an auspicious day. So, wearing a new Thirumangalyam is not wrong. Normally, vaideekals saying Thirumangalyam is must for " Sashtiyaptha Poorthi " (becaue it is called as 'Arupathaam Kalyanam' in Tamil), but not a must in Sathabhishegam. 2. If the Sathabhishega muhurhtha time is arround 9 to 10 am, we can put the Udakasaanthi in the morning itself. If it is convenient, and wish to make a night 'Dhathiyaaradhanam' we can do it on the previous day evening. (But the dheertham should be kept as it is, and it will be poured only on next day muhurtha time.) 3. I hope the general info I had given about Sathabhishegam. If you wish to know more about it, kindly send the list of your questions which will be easier for me to answer. 4. Note :- The answer for this question is my own pinion, you can consider it or just ignore it. Regarding a Bruhaspathi or Vadhyar :- A family should have a family vadhyar. The trradition is lying not only doing rituals but also keeping the traditional system of keeping a family Bruhaspathy. If you have your own family Bruhaspathy then, you should do any vaideekam with his guidance only. If you feel your Bruhaspathy is not capable, then you can arrange a capable person as Brahma or additional vadhyar to your family bruhaspathy. That also, one day you should discuss with your Bruhaspathy and the other vidwan about all the steps. And you should not specific in the matter of Vadakalai or Thenkalai regarding Vadhyar. Because now a days it is very rare to find a good knowledge vadhyars. We should not loose a good personality by making the kalai as a barrier, but you should check he is capable to take over the customs of Vadakalai also. Fine. To suggest a Bruhaspathi, you have not given the basic details: The date and venue of the function?? If your function is in Chennai: My suggestion is : Sri. Ue. Ve. Thirukkannamangai (Kovil Venni) Rajagopalachariyar. Who is my Guru. If required send me a personal mail I will give you his address and contact number. nvs
Guest ANANTHAN
Dear Swamin, As i Understand that for sathabishekam 1) Tirumangalaym is must (in case the Sathabishegam is done as dampathis') 2) Saharsradhara is used for pouring the Kumba theertham. 3) Ayushya homam & Akshadai aseeravatham (in case no family practise of ayusha homam only Akshadai aseervadham). Kindly elobrate. Dasan Purisai Ananthan.
