Guest guest
Dear NVS Swamin, A question will arise as to performing Upakarma when a person is under " Theettu " . It is has been told that the Upakarma has to be observed on the following Pournimi day. If a person has lost his father or mother in a given year he should skip Upakarma of that year. However he has to do Gayatri Japam next day. adiyen, nochalur seshadri sampath. *** The term " Theetu " is not applicable for the person who are doing masikams to their parents. The theetu is only 10 days for them also. We should not treat Upakarma as a ritual, but should treat it as an yearly Anushtanam which is compulsory for all. Upakarma is having two parts : 1) Rushi tharpanam - including changing new poonal. 2) Pandigai (festival) - preparing variety of food and offering them to God and enjoying with dear and near. Gayathri Japam has only one part - doing the japam which is must for everybody. If Gayathri japam takes place within any theetu, no chance to do it in any other day in that year. The second part only should be avoided by the persons who are doing masikams to their parents. The period which I mentioned in the subject line as before apthikam. Note: if the upakarma is happening within the ten days (or any count of theetu) theetu for any person, should perform the upakarma in the next powrnami. nvs
