Guest guest
Dear Bruhaspathi Swamin, Reg tharpanam, I want some clarification. What is ashtakai and unvashtakai Further It is always said that in punya theertham say like Prayagai and Ganges one should offer tharpanaam to pithru's. Then is it the same manthras as in Amavasai or different. REGARDS VSR *** Ashtaka and Anvashtaka are two important punya kaalams which will normally occurs in the month of Masi - Krishna Paksha Ashtami and Navami. Doing tharpanam other than Amavasai, Sankramanam, Ashtakai, Anvashtakai, Grahanams for pithrus are coming under compulsory karmas by sastram. Doing tharpanams in Punya Nadhis and Punya Kshethrams are not compulsory and they are to be done expecting the Phalans, which are not coming under rituals. So, I do not know about that. Moreover, I don't know or yet to know many things which are compulsory. nvs
Guest guest
Dear Swamin, We all are aware that as a Nithyakarma, we are supposed to perform every day, the Sandhyavandana. But then in addition, we are aso supposed to do, Deva Rishi, Kanda Rishi, Pitru Tarpanam, Brahma Yagnam, Vastra Nishpeedanam and Aupaasanam. Even one generation ago, very few had the time to do all these and it ended up with Sandhyavandanam only. And as for the current generation, people know only about Sandhyavandanam and they are not aware of the other Karmas listed above. Among the above, the the Deva Rishi, Kanda Rishi, Pitru Tarpanam is done by us all on the Upakarma Day only, though it is a Nitya Karma immediately after Snanam. Even when we do not do this Tarpana every day after Snanam, let us atleast do it when we have the holy Snanam in Punya Nadhis - this is the thinking when one said to you that we need do this Tarpan when we take bath in Punya Nadis. This Tharpana is the same as we do on Upkarma day and it is not the one which we do on Amavasya or Masapirappu. Raghunathan
Guest guest
srI: Sri NVS swamin, dasoham. Though pitru tarpaNam is performed by those who have father not alive. Some people say that pitru tarpaNam in Brahma yagnam & upAkarma tarpaNam should be done by all. This is because these pitrus are not jeeva pitrus (father, thatha etc). [*** not Vasu, Rudhra, Aadhithya] adiyen has seen that generally among Tamils all pitru tarpaNams are performed by one who is fatherless as swamin mentioned. In other parts of bharatam like Andra and Karnataka all perform pitru tarpanam in brahma yagnam and upakarma tarpanam. dasan. *** I already explained it. nvs
