Guest guest
Quoting tri_vikrama: > namskaram, Dear Srimathi.S B Illayavalli, By the way , I am male. The term Ilayavilli denotes Sri LakshmaNa. Ours is one of the 74 families selected by Sri Ramanujar to propagate SrivaishNavism. All these families have differnt titles and these names have definite reason. Just like Sri LakshmaNa guarded Lord SriRamA for fourteen years without sleep, we are to look after SrivaishNavite tradition. I am belongs to tenkalai/atreya. Thus, my grand mother is my guru, now who will be my acharyan for me to approach? I am not well versed with Thenkalai SampradAyA. VAnamAmalai Jeer is the most important AchAryan for Thenkalai SrivaishNavAs, I think. Better you try to approach him for SamAsrayaNam. Thenkalai SrivaishNavas do not have a separate ritual for Prabhatthi like Vadakalai SrivaishNavas and it is included in the rituals of SamAsrayaNam itself. As such, are all my offerings and dedication to Perumaal will mean nothing, without an initiation from an acharyan whom I don't know?? Would that means, workship Perumaal alone without an initiation from aacharyan will not qualify me to become, neither a vaishnava nor a Sri Maha Vishnu devotee?! According to Tenkalai doctrines, Maarcharya theory it is lord whom will decide and lead us to salvation. (confuse!!!!) When there is no possibilities,is it mandatory for me to have initiation, am I will be excluded(spiritually) by the holy divinty from vaishnava family? If I am to elaborate on this , it will end up in a long argument. But suffice it to know that the Lord expects us to do at least something by which he can thrash our past sins and make our souls free. I think the very yearning of you to become a SrivasihNavite itself is a good sign and that the Lord has been pleased by your worship and offerings. You are on the right track and be guided by the Lord. I can narrate my own life , but I don't have time right now nor will it be pleasing to anybody. One thing is certain in our tradition: ThAyAr is more important than the Lord. BhAgavathAs are still more important. And the AchAryan is the most important of all. Before concluding this mail , let me narrate you just two incidences in the life of Sri Ramanujar: 1. When Udayavar came to know that his disciple Sri KoorathAlwan wanted to attain VaikunTam before himself, he was sad and asked Kooresar about that. He replied that according to our tradition, when a soul reaches Srivaikuntam ,the Bhagawan with his consorts and all Nithyasuris and MuthAs receive the newly liberated soul with all UpchArams and Kooresar wanted to be one among them to do all kainkaryams ro ramAnujar and that'swhy he wanted to attain Moksham before SriRamAnujar. Such was his devotion to Acharyan that he wanted to continue his service to him even in Srivaikuntam. 2. Hearing about the unsuccessful attempt on the life of Udayavar, Thirukoshtiyur Nambi came to see him and Udayavar met him on the banks of the Cauvery at mid day and Ramanujar prostrated before Nambi on the noon hot riverbed. Nambi did not ask him to get up and the sun was scorching like anything. One of the disciples of Sri Ramanuja, Sri KidAmbi AchAn got wild on seeing his Acharyan suffering in the hot riverbed and got him up forcefully. Then he asked Nambi with anger what kind of Guru he is. All the sishyas of Udayavar and Nambi were taken aback by this but Nambi smiled back and asked AchAn to look after Udayavar by providing him the BhikshA (food) so that he need not go out for bhiksha. Just two examples: But I think these would suffice to show the greatness acceded to Acharyan in our Sampradhaya.
