Hare Krishna.

I saw the list for funeral rites in terms of who can

do it. Can daughters perform funeral rites ?

Generally, women do not go to the crematorium or

cemetery and it is the male progeny who is considered

the deliverer of the ancestors from put, hence putra.

We also of course use the word 'putri' for girls but

as per shastra, can the female progeny perform the

same or deliver the parents or forefathers ? If no,

have there been any reasons given in shAstram given

for this?

Wrongly understood.

If the performer is a lady,

the rites may be performed by any male person authorised by her

by giving dharbham. The Manthram should be told as " YajamaanayaH " ...
