Guest guest
Dear Sri.Brahaspathi swamin Today adiyen happen to have some open discussions with one of our higher official, who happens to be an Iyengar. during the discussion he raised one question i.e. What is the significance of the 3 threads in the Yagnyobaveetham or what does it indicate? he added further and asked after marriage 2 (6 threads are ) poonal are customary to be worn and what is the customary of the 2nd yagnyobaveetham. He also commented that he had raised this question to many of the learned personnel including his father but they did not have any reply rather shutting him by saying " Adhigaprasangi " Since adiyen happens to be an Iyengar he asked me the questions and to be frank I am not aware of the same. Can the moderator or any one in this group explain the querry ?? adiyen ramanujadasan
Guest guest
Dear swAmin, I have heard the following from elders, but I too am not 100% sure: that the three strands of the yagnyopaveetham represent the three debts (ruNas) to the devas, pitrus and acharyas. I have also heard it represents the three guNas of sattva, rajas and tamas and the control over them which we are meant to have. But I ask other learned members to clarify. Perhaps Sri NVS swAmin can clarify from the " Dharma Shastram " books. Regarding the second yagnyopaveetham after marriage, in the sankalpam for putting on the second poonal it is stated " gaarhasthaashrama karma karaNa yogyataa siddhyartham " , meaning, it is to give us eligibility to perform the karmas associated with gruhastha ashrama (like oupaasanam, etc). Some elders have told me that the second poonal is worn on behalf of the wife, as after marriage, all vaideeka karmas must be done by the husband and wife together. Again request learned members to clarify. daasan, Ranjan vaideekam , " akkafrg " <akkafrg wrote: > > Dear Sri.Brahaspathi swamin > > Today adiyen happen to have some open discussions with one of our > higher official, who happens to be an Iyengar. during the discussion > he raised one question i.e. What is the significance of the 3 threads > in the Yagnyobaveetham or what does it indicate? he added further and > asked after marriage 2 (6 threads are ) poonal are customary to be worn > and what is the customary of the 2nd yagnyobaveetham.
