Mahalayam is always in Krishna Paksham in Purattasi month, if I understand it correctly. But I have been told from many years back that I should do Mahalaya Tharpanam after Sraddham only. My doubt is during the Mahalaya Paksham, as the Sraddham doesn't come, but comes in Sukla paksham following Mahalaya Amavasai, am I permitted to do Mahalaya Tharpanam like others during the Paksham rather than wait for the mother's sraddham to be over. Is it that if Sraddham occurs in Purattasi, Mahalaya tharpanam should be postponed? I shall be grateful for a clarification on this. With kind regards, Adiyen Padmanabhan Dasan.
