Guest guest
Dear NVS Swamina:, Namaskarams. Adiyen would like to add the following : It is said that amaa poorNaa gurum hanti (doing adhyayana on amavassai and poorNimaa will be be bad for the guru (kills him) shishyam hanti chaturdasii (doing adhyayana on chaturdasi kills the disciple.) ubhayo: ashTamii hanti (doing adhyayana on ashTamii will kill both guru and shishyan.) and pratipat paaThanaashinii (studying on pratipat or prathamai will destroy the learnt lesson itself.) cf. pratipat paaThashiilasya vidyeva tanutaam gataa : (seeta had become emaciated as the knowledge of the person habitually studying on prathamais. That is why they used to declare these days closed in (veda) paathashaalaas. it may apply to others also but is not implemented in western culture. dasan ramanuja *********************************************** On Tue, 28 Apr 2009, Rajagopalan wrote: > Dear Bruhaspathi Swamin, While explaining at a later date on Karinaal, I request you to kindly explain about the day after Pournami and Amavasai (Pattiammai). I remember in (G)olden days when we used to hv santhi for Pancha Sukthangal Pattaiammai day is holiday. I would like to know about that also Regards VSRajagopalan *** In your message you mentioned 'Sandhai' as 'Santhi' I think. 'Sandhai' means teaching vedham to pupils. Some where in vedham a line is coming with the meaning: " ... he forgot everything like a boy who made adhyayanam on prathamai day " So, (I hope) prathamai is avoided for 'Adhyayanams' (sandahi). nvs -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. Guest guest
Respectful SwAmin, adiyEn is given to unerstand that only new lessons should not be learnt on these days. But, repetition of old lessons is not prohibited. Kindly confirm. Regards, dAsan anbil SrInivAsan *** When a lesson is under sandhai it is considered as new lesson only. A (old) lesson which is Sandhai completed and came to 'Thiruvai' (by hearting) can be done on those days. nvs
