That is, ashtOtra Japam is prohibited that evening because of mahaa prdOsham. My guru in Delhi several years ago told me about this practice. It is believed that long japas may disturb Lord Narayana Who is watching the dance of Shiva n evening of MahaapradOsham. He used to observe maunam 2hrs before and after the sunset that evening. adiyEn wanted to get confirmation and let others also know this through your knowledgeable advice.
