Guest guest
Dear Sri Vasu Mama! Pranaams and Namaskarams to your feet. Recently I came across some suggestions that doing Pitru Tarpana will benefit anyone even if their parents/grandparents are alive as it gives tarpana to ancestors. [i got this from agasthiar.org] Is this recommended and allowed even if one's parents are alive? That is, is there a custom of giving tarpana to other ancestors? thank you for your advice. *** Mostly all are fearing to do pitru kaaryam on these days. Trying to carry out all pitru karma out of residence. Nothing will happen if done for a jeeva pitru. But it will be like sending a letter through courier service for the person with whom you are talking at the time. Worship your parents with deep reverence and respect their atma will give you more phalan than doing tarpanam etc. which is not supported by shastras. nvs
Guest guest
Dear Sri Suvarnatejas, Amongst namboodiris, we still follow what is called shuddha vaidika sandhya vandanam. in the poorva bhaga, we have to do tarpanam immediately after arghya. the tarpanams followed by namboodiris are different than what is followed amongst other brahmin communitities (LIKE keshavadi tarpanam). Amongst us, the tarpanams are three deva tarpanam (devam gu's tarpayami, devaganam gu's tarpayami - 3 each) rishi tarpanam (risheems tarpayami, rishiganams tarpayami) pitr tarpanam (pitrims tarpayami, pitr ganam's tarpayami, urjvam vahi grta payah kilaam etc. once) thus every day we do deva - rishi - pitri tarpanam (including those who have father and mothers. my children do it. nothing " bad " has been suffered. other namboodiris do/or did in the past without any bad consequences. each brahmin is supposed perform every day 5 yajnas - i.e., deva yajna, rishi yajna, pitri yajna, bhuta yajna, and manushya yajna. offering of a fistful of water is considering equivalent to a sacrifice. thus, even if you offer one glass of water to any human being, it is considered that you have done manushya yajna for that day. the above tarpanam is done thrice a day - i.e., in the morning, afternoon and evening. during asaucham period or when you don't bath during even sickness or in the evening, the tarpanam should be done only for devas, not for rishis and pitris. thus by doing tarpanams, you are sacrificing every day. such tarpanam (derived from the word trpya - to satisfy.) satisfy all the beings of the word and you discharg the obligations mandated by vedas in a simple and effective manner.
