The Thirunakshatra Veda PaarAyNam for Devanar ViLAgam Azhagiya Singar , Sri VeerarAghava Yatheendhra Mahaa Desikan just started today with 150 Veda PaarAyaNakkArars and large number of students from the Veda PaatasAlAs. This will continue for 5 days; immediately will follow the 5 days of Veda/Dhivya prabhandha PaarAyaNam until November 27 , the 83rd Thirunakshatram day of Prakrutam Periya Azhagiuya Singar, Sri NaarAyaNa Yatheendhra Mahaa Desikan .

 

Today , we will focus on the effects of Vedic recitations to guide us towards the engagement in noble deeds and truthful speech . We will study the Yajur Veda Mantram XVIII.29:

 

Aayuryajn~Ena kalpatAm

prANO yajn~Ena kalpatAm

Chakshur yajn~Ena kalpatAgum

SrOtram yajn~Ena kalpatAm

 

vaak yajn~Ena kalpatAm

manO yajn~Ena kalpatAmAtmaa yajn~Ena kalpatAm

BrahmA yajn~Ena kalpatAm

jyOtir yajn~Ena kalpatAgum

 

svaryajn~Ena kalaptAm

prushtam yajn~Ena kalpatAm

yajn~O yajn~Ena kalpatAm

 

stOmaSccha yajuSccha Rk cha sAma cha Bhrumaccha rathAntaram cha

svardEvA aganmAmrutA abhUma prajApatE: prajA abhUma vEDD svAhA

 

This lengthy prayer is for us to be yoked to noble deeds and truthful speech ( rtam) thru engagements in action/Yajn~am ( internal or external) consecrated to Gods .The rg Veda declares " the gods are only different names , but also different forms, powers and personalities of the one DEvA ":

 

Indhram Mitram VaruNamagnimAhurathO dhivya: sa SuparNo GarutmAn

yEkam sadh viprA: vadantyagnim Yamam mAtariSvAnamAhu:

Rg Vedam I.164.46

 

(Meaning): He is One , though seers call Him with various names, such as Indra , Mitra , VaruNa , Agni , Divya , SuparNa , GarutmAn , Yama and Matarisvan .

 

Yajur Veda mantram ( XXXII.1) gives the same message:

 

tadEvAgnis-tAdAdityas-tadhvAyus-tadhuchnadramA

tadhEva Sukram tadh Brahma taa Aapa: sa PrajApati :

 

(Meaning ): He alone is Agni , the same He is Aaditya, the same one is known as Vaayu and chandramA . He again is the same oOne known as SukrA , Brahman , Aapa: or PrajApati .

 

This Supreme Brahman empowering various gods extends even far beyond this extensive universe . " He creates the universe and the universe assumes His form; He weaves the entire universe thru HIs divine thread of Unified Law". He creates a cosmic cloth with divine woofs and warps , shuttles and pegs working continously in the parameters of space and Time according to the Skamba SootrA of the Atharva Veda.

 

The Lengthy Yajur Veda Mantram quoted atthe beginning ( Aayuryajn~Ena kalpatAm----prajA abhUma vEDD svAhA ) salutes the success of life devoted to Kaimakryams

( Yajn~ams) to the Lord , His BhAgavatAs and the AchAryAs .

 

The Meaning of the lengthy Yajur Veda Mantram is :

 

May Life succeed through the service to God and the sages!

May Life thrive through the union ( thru PrANAyAma and Yoga )!

May the eye, ear , Voice , mind, Soul , thrive thru the services to God

and the sages !

 

May the knower of the four VedAs , the light of justice , happiness thrive

thru the service to God and the Sages !

 

May the passion for knowledge be satisfied thru study !

May desirable deed be performed through true behavour !

May the four VedAs and their Brhat , RatAntara mantrams thrive thru

the anugraham of the God and Sages !

 

Oh Sages ! May we be freed from the pangs of birth and death and gain

the happiness of final beautitude ! May we become the true sons of God ! May we

be yoked to noble deeds and truthful speech !

 

Such is the power of divine Vedic speech incorporated as Veda MantrAs and handed by the aural tradition over thousands of years ! May the Veda PaarAyaNakkAraas who nourish this tradition tirelessly thru Guru Kulam in Veda PaatasAlAs thrive and prosper in their Yajn~ams !
