Sir,

As per the details given, the thithi of your brother in laws father

is: Maasi Sukla Shasti

so, the Aptigam day falls on : 2nd March 2009.

 

In general (applicable to all) :

The previous day to Aptigam the Sodakumba shraaddham should be done.

The day before previous day the Oona aptigam will be done.

 

But some times, due to some conditions the Oona Aptigam and the

Sodakumbam can be interchanged.

If the Aptigam day falls on Thursday, the oona aptigam should be done

on Tuesday which is not allowed to perform on Tuesdays, so the Oona

aptigam can be shifted to Wednesday and the Sodakumbam may be shifted

to Tuesday.

 

As per shastras, any oonam 27 or 45 or sixth month or Oona aptigam

should not be performed on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. If not

possible to satisfy any of the conditions, should be performed on the

final day.

 

If possible, the Janma star of main kartha may be avoided.

 

Other conditions to perform the Oonams:

27th Oonam --- its actual name is " aadhya oona anumasikam " .

duration about three days. 28th, 29th and 30th.

If the 2nd masyam falls on the 30th day, then the oonam should be done

on either 28th day or on 29th day.

 

45th day --- actual name : " Thraipakshika oona anumasikam "

duration about five days, i.e, 41 to 45.

 

Sixth month oonam --- name = " Oona shaaNmasikam "

duration about ten days, i.e 171st day to 180th day,

some times the 7th Oonaanumasikam may fall on 178, or 179th day, in that case,

the Oona shaaNmasikam should be performed before that.

 

Oona aptigam -- name = " Oona anvaaptigam "

duration about 15 days, i.e, from 341st day to 355th day.

Normally the Oonam, Sodakumbam, Aptigam, Dhatiyaaraadhanam are take

place continuously.

But some times the aptigam day may go beyond 365 days, in that case,

the Oonam should be performed individually between 341 to 355th days.

I also need your help in one other matter. My brother's

father-in-law expired on 12th march 2008, time 9.01 am in Mumbai. Can

you please let us know the date of his yearly ceremony?
