You are the Lord of the immortals, Kesava, one who belongs to all the houses of cowherd and their leader, you are the great enchanter, oh Madhava. You have pierced the seven mara trees which were fully blossomed. Oh sreedhara, I will pine for your grace speaking about your acts and names apt for them. The azvar first wanted to go away from the Lord thinking that he does not deserve the grace of the Lord but He could not do so because the Lord would not let him go. Now Azvar yearns for His grace when He is delaying to grant the request that the azvar should be accepted to serve His feet. This verse is linked with the previous one thus. vinaiyEn – one who is influenced by the karma, here, the thought of leaving the Lord was due to his karma. Vinai theer marundhaanaai- The Lord was like a medicine which removes the illness , here, the effect of karma e which made Azvar to leave Him. viNNOr thlaivaa- The Lord of the devas and the nithya sooris kesavaa- This name has three meanings, namely, the one who has the thrimoorthis, ka-Brahma, a-vishnu, eesa-Siva, under His control,(kaScha aScha eesacha keSaaH the asya vaSyathayaa santhi) the slayer of the demon Kesi and one with beautiful locks of hair. manaisEr aayar kula mudhalE- Leader of the cowherds and who frequented their houses by stealing butter etc., and also who, being viNnOrthalaivan came down to be one of them. maamaayan, referring to His exploits in His incarnations such as Raama and Krishna. maadhavaa- the consort of Lakshmi. Sinai Ez thazaiya maraamarngaL Ezum eydhaai- Pierced the seven maraa trees, which were full of branches and leaves with His arrow in Ramavathara to reassure Sugriva of His prowess to kill Vali. Sireedharaa- Sree is glory. Sreedhara or sireedhara means glorious one. inaiyaai- of so many such qualities. inaiya peyarinaai- and who has names to denote His qualities. enRu adiyEn naivan- saying thus I am pining for your grace.
