Guest guest
Respected Sri Srinivasan,In continuation of the mail on 2 questions, we can keep on elaborating on the relevance of the timing of the nOnbu. The verses 45 and 48 of AruNam that our Moderator swami is writing, add other dimensions. The 45 the verse speaks about the 'dampathee' nature of Sun and Agni. Swami has explained it in terms of sandya nature. Every maasa sankramana is a sandhi. The sandhis are suitable for penances. Particularly if after the sandhi the 4 corners of the zodiac comes, they are more ideal for vrathas. Surya siddhantha has identified the 4 corners in Gemini, Virgo, Sagitatrius and Pisces as heaving a corelation between moon and sun's degees that will enable any penence done in those corners giving excellent results. From the 45thg mantra of AruNam, the sun-agni dampathee gives birth to 'Vrutran' (the smoke that hides Agni) and Vaidhyuthan (the sun shine). The sandhi at Kumbha- meena junction resembles a movement from saturn (the night part) who is ruthless as fire and entry into Jupiter - the pleasant Guru who protects the sishya. The Sun overseeing this sandhi is a good moment for vratham is supported by the 48th mantra of AruNam. The 48 th mantra of Arunam is more explicit in Sun's role as father and protector of any vratham. PitA pratta:yEshAm vratam abhirakshati = Sooryan stands as the Father and ancient One and protects their vratamLike this we can gather many relevance to the moment of the nOnbu. regards, jayasreejayasree.saranathan wrote: SrI:Respected Sri Srinivasan,(1) yes. All women, both unmarried and married observe kaaradayaan nOnbu. But this is confined to Iyengar community only. The prayer is similar to the Paavai nonbu - kanyas praying to get a good husband and married women praying for long life of husband. (2) Yes. Sun transits from saturn's sign of Aquarius to Pisces. This nOnbu is done at the entry of the sun into Meena rasi. To add more, the sun and the nOnbu lagna will be in Jupiter's star of Poorvabhadrapada - pada 4. This will put the sun and the nOnbu lagna in Cancer in the navamsa. Cancer is moon's sign. If by chance Mars is also in Poorvabhadrapada - pada 4 at the time of nOnbu, it will also be in cancer navamsa which is its place of debility. The debility or exaltaion or any state of a planet in navamsa will decide the outcome that a planet is capable of giving. Navamsa is the Dharma chakra indicating the results of poorva punya. Mars must not debilitate there. Particularly at the moment of nOnbu meant for long life of husband or for maangalya balam. If by chance Mars happens to debilitate in cancer, the lagna position for nonbu in the first the pada of meena will be in cancer navamsa along with Mars thereby canceling the debility of Mars. Since this moment has Sun, Moon, lagna and Jupiter power (meena is ruled by Jupiter) and meena rasi is watery rasi, good for growth and auspiciousness, this moment has some good portends. I dont know who chose this moemnt or why they chose this moment. But if we take into consideration the purpose of the nOnbu, and look from all possible angles on the timing, the dish offered etc, we do get some supportive insights into it - which i am writing. Guest guest
- srinivasan sowmianarayanan Oppiliappan Sunday, February 22, 2009 3:03 AM Re: Fw: Maangalya dhaaraNam - 7 (from AruNam) Respectful Madam, Excellent explanation. You have brought in the importance of Arunam too, thus establishing the unique position of the Sun. Arunan is the Charioter of the Sun. It also appears that the vratham makes the Sun to march towards to his highest position as just after 30/31 days, he will be in exaltation. It looks as if this vratham adds strength to him to rise high. Similarly, there may be something striking when he enters Simha rasi where he gets another special position. The lives of all of us depend on the movement of the Sun in the Rasi/navamsa chakaras. As men have to perform tharpanam when he enters a new rasi in a year, women are also expected to do certain rites similarly.. Pl. continue your postings which are educative.
