Dear Swamy Desika BhakthAs :

Today , we will study slOkams 45 and 46 of Hamsa SandhEsa Kaavyam relating to

Sri Ranagam and Lord RanganAthan.

Today is Panguni Uttiram day and it is appropriate to think about Sesha Peetam , Ranga VimAnam and Sri RanganAthan .

In the first slOkam (45th) , Lord Raamachandra instructs the Message -carrying Swan ( Raaja Hamsam) traveling south to prostrate before the Sesha Peetam , which will later become the seat of( Aadharam for ) the Sriranga VimAnam .

In the second slOkam ( 46th) , Lord Raamachandra describes Lord Ranganathan , the AarAdhana Moorthy of

IshvAku Kulam resting inside the Ranga VimAnam at AyOdhya .

virachita padham= having established a place

Saadhubhi: sEvyamAnam= ( and ) being worshipped by the pious ones

SEsha Peetam = ( there is ) the SEsha Peetam.

SraddhA yOgAth vinamita tanu: bhajEtA:= May You bend your body well with reverence and offer Your salutations to that SEsha peetam.

Munibhi: udhitam= it has been predicted by the renowned Sages that

Yasmin asmath = on this SEsha Peetam

KuladhanatayA SaakEtabhAja: Srimata: RangadhAmna: sthAnam bhavyam= will be the future foundation for the famous Ranga VimAnam , which is currently existing at AyOdhyaa nagaram.

(Full Meaning): Oh My friend , the King Swan ! As You fly from ThiruveLLari , You will see a raised platform on the banks of Chandra PushkaraNi .The Sages will be offering their praNAms to that sacred peetam . Please join them and bend well before that Peetam. There is a reason for it . For us all , the scions of the IshvAku Kulam , Sri RanganAtha resting under the Ranga VimAnam at AyOdhyaa is our Kula dhanam and Dhaivam. He has been recieving my ancestors' AarAdhanam for centuries at AyOdhyaa . The sages predict that the Sriranga VimAnam with the Lord resting inside will travel south and be seated on the Sesha Peetam . This SEsha Peetam

is destined to have such a glory of being the AadhAram for our Lord's Ranga VimAnam . So says Lord Raamabhadran,

on His way to Lankhaa to fulfil His avatAra Kaaryam . Later at LankhA , our Lord will present Ranga VimAnam to VibhishaNan to take it with him to his capital but Sri Ranganatha had different plans and decided to stay in the island of Srirangam with His vimanam positioned over the SEsha Peetam .

As Lord Raamachandran was describing the glories of the SEsha Peetam , He felt nostalgic for the sevai of His Kula dhaivam , Lord RanganAthan resting inside the Ranga VimAnam at AyOdhyaa at His ancestral RaajadhAni . Lord Raamabhadran in Vibhava avatAram longs now for the sevai of the archaa Moorthy of Sri RanganAthan , whom he used to worship daily with SitA PirAtti before leaving His kingdom to fulfil the promise made to His Father to stay in the forest for 14 years .

The 46th slOkam of Hamsa SandhEsam is a fond rememberance of Lord RanganAthan by Lord Raamachandran.

DivyE sattvE svayam udhayata: tasya dhAmna: prasangAth= Since I talked about the self-manifested Sriranga VimAnam , which will rest later on top of the suddha sattvamaya SEsha Peetam ,

tadhanta: manjUshAyAm maragatamiva bhrAjamAnam = my thoughts are turning to the tEjOmaya Lord RanganAthan , who is resting inside the Sriranga VimAnam just like a beautiful emerald inside its jewelery case in a posture of

resting on the bed of Aadhi SEshan with one of His hands as His pillow and

dheerga apAngam = looking at us with His beautiful , long glances.

Jaladhi tanayA jeevitam=He is the uyir nilai ( Basis for the Life) of Sri RanganAyaki .

Aadhyam dEvam chEta: dhAvati=My mind runs towards this Primordial dEvan , my

Kula dhaivam, Sri RanganAthan ( resting under the Sri Ranga VimAnam) and stays there .

When one thinks of one object , there is a wave of associative memories that rush before the mind's eye . Lord Raamchandran was describing the sacredness of SEsha Peetam to the Messenger Hamsam , when His memory rushed towards Ranga VimAnam , which will rest later on that SEsha peetam (after His PattAbhishEkam at AyOdhyaa attended by the king of Lankha , VibhishaNan, who got Sriranga VimAnam and Lord RanganAtha as a Present) .
