Sri:

SrimathE Gopaladesika Mahadesikaya nama:

Dearest all,

Agamas- as extracted from Sri M. Narasimhachari’s Srivaishnava Agamas:

Namo namo vaangmanasaatibhoomayE..

Namo namo vaangmanasaikabhoomayE..

While the BrahadAraNyaka Upanishad describes the Supreme Being that defies all

positive descriptions (nEti nEti), the ChandhOgya Upanishad pinpoints Him in a

positive assertion that He has lotus – eyes, golden raiment, golden moustache,

and that He is of the complexion of molten gold from the top of nails up to His

crown (tasya yatha kapyAsaasam pundareekam evam aksinI hiraNyavarNa:

hiraNyasmasru: aa pranakhAt sarva eva suvarNa:, tasya mAhArajatam vaa: etc.. )

for a common man, temples and deities consecrated according to the sanctions of

Agamas are the only source of bliss and solace, both here and thereafter. Agamas

cater to the needs of those who require temples and images for spiritual

progress.

It is the Agamas that come to the rescue of the helpless despondent man by

providing him a form to pray to and to worship, and a place to go to, in the

times of stress and strain. Swami Vivekananda – an advaita sage, an advocate

of Nirguna NirvisEsha Brahman, wrote to his friend Azhagiya singa of Madras in

the year 1895, “go this very moment to the temple of Lord Parthasarathy in

Triplicane temple, and pray to Him. He is our Sarathi and can take us on the

path of victory in our mission.â€.

The KriyAdhikAdhikAra of Brihu (I.13) observes:

chaksusa:preetikAraNat, manasO hrdayasya ca |

preetya sangsyatE bhakti: bhakthasya sulabhO hari:

“worship done to the Lord in temple and in homes, pleases the eyes, the mind

and the heart. It generates devotion in people who worship the form. Pleased by

this, Lord Sri Hari will become easily accessible to them. Agamas are so

relevant and practical in today’s world that they can make to the well-being

of human society.

Sri Ramanuja may be said to have drawn his spirit of liberalism in allowing the

Paanchamas into the temple of Lord Sampathkuamara at Melkote in the Karnataka

State, from such statements found in Vaishnava Agamas. He gave them the noble

nomenclature Thirukkulatthaar (those belong to the family of Thiru or Lakshmi)

equal to Hari jan…

In the midst of divergent religious beliefs, practices, and worship routines

that are present in India which are baffling to a superficial observer, there

runs the golden thread of unity. If diversity is the art of Nature, unity is

heart of God. The Rg veda has already stated this truth in its own striking

style. “ekam sad viprA bahudhA vadanti†(what exists is one; but wise men

call it by different namesâ€).

Those who could see the golden thread that runs through all these are real

knowers of Truth. Lord Krishna declared the grand truth in the Gita (Ch. 7- v.7)

There is nothing else that is superior to Me in this universe. All this is

strung upon Me like precious stones on a thread.
