Dear Swamin

Previously, we saw that mumukshoo can aspire swarnam (gold), horse, cow, servants etc from " Piratti" as he has to perform "yajgas" etc

One Mahanubhava asked adiyen asto why a " Thapasvi" / Rishi/ should not pray for these, as he has to live and also to protect his family besides doing "agnihotram" etc

Yes, ofcourse, these are all there. In this connection adiyen has to tell a story

There were two sages before a long time. They were very poor. One thapasvi prayed Sri Mahalakshmi for wealth according to sastra for a very long period to get rid from the poverty but without result.

Other sage , though very poor, did not resort to this but he migrated to other area which belong to another king. To his dismay there were severe famine at that time and the King distributed each and everything to his people, thus becoming very very poor. The entire country was in the grip of famine and the King , on seeing this Sage , requested him to invoke the blessings of " Varuna Deva" for rains . The sage, realizing the pitiable condition of people/cattle/trees etc prayed " Varuna" duly performing jabha etc according to sastras. Within a very short time there was very heavy rains. This sage prayed Sri Mahalakshmi for granting wealth to the king and to the surprise of all, Piratti gave abundent wealth to the King to protect the people/ cattle etc

The first Sage approached his acharyan and asked the reason. His acharyan said that as a brahmin, he has to knock at the doors of the king of his country, for livelyhood and that brahmins/ sages/thapasvis should not resort to self improvement by invoking the manthras ,He also explained that the jnana should be utilised for the welfare of the society at large that "Drona" though well-versed in all manthras could easily invoked them to get milk to his child-son ( Aswaththaamaa) when he was very hungry but approached " durupatha" to get a cow and that there were many examples in " Ramayana" and " Mahabharatha"

Oh, Mahanubhavan, hereafter adiyen intends to tell stories also in support of all these
