The lands of the temples do not produce any revenue to them Therefore the sale of lands and deposit of the proceeds is a better option for the temples. Temple lands are occupied by a variety of people, including thier hereditary trusteees, sthalathar,theerthakarars, and archakars.

 

Many Government Depts treat temple lands as lands belonging to Govt. Whenever they need some land they first examine whether there are any temple lands which could be taken over. The lands belonging to minorities are never touched, even though they are under occupation by others.

 

Attempts by HRC & E offcials to reclaim lands often do not succeed due to the delays in the Courts. However, the registration of thier sale by occupiers is difficult due to the provisions of the Registration Act.
