May

Rama, who is the personification of dharma, who wields the bow, the arrows from

which are powerful enough to dry up the ocean and are more terrible than the

fire of deluge and who has taken the vow of protecting those who surrender to

Him even once in what ever capacity, may create distaste in adharma in us.

Dhanvee refers to Raghurama, who is extolled as

Kodhandarama, wielding his invincible bow. DhanuH

asya asthi ithi Dhanvee. In Gita the Lord says, ramah Sasthrabrthaam aham,

"I am Rama of those who are adept in missiles."

vigrahavaan dharmaH- who is the personification of dharma.

viSikha vyaapaara ghorakramaH- whose use of arrows is terrible.

viSikha

means an arrow.

Because

they are,

1.

Paaraavaara payo viSoshaNakalaa paareena-

capable of drying up the waters of the ocean. The sea is known as paaraavara because it hides, the other

end by its expanse. paaram aavrNothi

(hides) ithi paaraavaarah. paaraavarasya

payaH(water). thath viSoshaNa kalaa

the skill of drying up the water of the ocean. thasyaam paareeNaH,

adept, paaram (limit) gacChathi (reaches)ithi paareeNaH.

Desika,

by this adjective to visikhaavyaapaaraghorakrama,

refers to the threat of drying up the ocean by Rama when the king of the

ocean failed to appear when Rama meditated on him.

2.

kaalaanala jvaalaajaala vihaara haari

– they take away the glory from the play

of the fire of deluge, meaning that the arrows of Rama were capable of creating

greater havoc than the fire of deluge.

At

the same time he is,

sarvaavasThasakrdhprapannajanathaa

samrakshaNaikavrathee

That

is, Rama has taken a vow that he would give refuge to whoever surrenders even

once, irrespective of wherever he is. Rama himself has said,

Sakrdheva

prapannaaya thava asmi ithi yaachathe

abhayam

sarvabhoothebhyo dhdhaami ethath vratham mama

"To

one who seeks refuge in me even once, saying that "I am yours," I will protect

him from all beings and this is my pledge."

Moreover Rama said ,

aanaya

enam hariSreshTa dhattham asya abhayam mayaa

vibheeshaNo

vaa sugreeva yadhi vaa raavaNa svayam

"Bring him Sugreeva, I have already given refuge to

him, whether he is vibheeshana or even Ravana himself."

raamo vigrahavaan DharmaH- Rama is described by valmiki as being the

personification of dharma. Rama himself says that he will forsake, Seetha and

even Lakshmana for the sake of upholding dharma.

Hence

Desika says that Rama should cause the adharma

virathi, turning away from adharma for us.
