Dear SrI VaishNavas,

Many a time we hear from elders thus: " We don't ask `why' to a doctor

who imposes some tough measures to cure a dreaded (or normal)disease.

(vALAl aruththu chudinum……).But we always ask `why' to the `code of

conduct' insisted by SAstram which does so to cure us of the disease

of samsAram " .

It is interesting to note that the highly-dreaded " SARS " epidemic has

warranted to impose a lot of AchAra-anushthAnams all over the world.

1. Don't hand-shake to pay your respect. (One newspaper in Singapore

reports that the Prime minister and ministers switched-over from hand-

shaking to " clasped hands " , the traditional Indian " namaste " .)

The great anAchAram, aDiyen had had until (recently)entering the

bhAgavathOthama kuzhAm.

2. Don't sip.

3. Don't exchange your personal items (used for eating etc.)

4. Avoid eating outside. (Restaurants etc.)

5. Use only `Madi' vasthrams, and glouses etc. (insisted for

healthcare workers).

6. Cleansing thoroughly after every excretion (mala-mUthra-

visarjanam).

and many more…..

So, after this episode, we may not hear more`why's.

A Sri-vaishNava doctor (!) would like to prescribe the following as

preventive measure.

" Take PerumAL theertham atleast twice-a-day, which apart from having

ingredients of high medicinal value, has `mahA viSvAsam' on Lord

srIman NarAyaNA as the primary constituent " .

aDiyEn,

Mukundan rAmAnuja dAsan.
