inittiDum teentamizhil ERRamudan vEdat *

The four prabhandams of AzhvAr are the essence of 4 vEdAs. They are

the result of his happiest bhagavat experience. AzhvAr has done them

in sweetest tamizh pAsurams only to make our iha-para life a

wonderful experience (vAzhvikkum sArvu). Such a great AzhvAr has to

be present in our heart always.

ihattuzhalum pEriDarai eesa – ahaRRenRu *

eNNu tiruviruttam ERRu.

 

Similar to the ahapporuL tuRaigaL in tamizh, which bring out the

experiences of nAyaka-nAyaki in separation and union, AzhvAr gave us

tiruviruttam as the first prabhandam. In tiruviruttam however, it is

the divine love of AzhvAr(nAyaki) on bhagavAn(nAyakan). In this

prabhandam, AzhvAr prays to the Lord on our behalf, to do away with

this samsAram, which is the root cause of all our sufferings. This is

considered as the essence of Rig vEdA by our poorvAchAryAs.

 

Pearls:

Although AzhvAr prays to the Lord on our behalf to end this samsAram,

his wonderful pAsurams themselves can make us happy for the rest of

our life here.
