Prabhandam - pAsuram 23 & 24 2. Pearls from the poems SS-23 kanigaL tirumAl guNangaL * kavigaL iniyatEn pUkkaL ezhilAi – muninUlgaL * nAngum pasunkiLaigaL nallaruLvEr vittumaRai * sAnROn SaTAri taru. The paramOpakAra SrImath nammAzhvAr is metaphorised as a divine tree. This tree has vEdAs as its seed and divine benevolence as the root. With a firm root, this tree branched out into 4 prabhandams such as tiruviruttam etc. The pAsurams are like sweet-smelling flowers. The fruits are nothing but kalyANa gunAs of tirumAl. (tirukkuraL mentions a `marundAgi tappA maram' whose all parts are used to cure bodily diseases. The divine tree, nammAzhvAr, cures the disease of samsAram, with all its parts) SS-24 taruvAi nizhaltarum dAgam taNikka * peruvAikkAl pOlviLOangum pENi – guruvAkkAm * mARanaruL vAimozhigaL mANbAi anaivarkkum * tERa maRaigaL tiraTTu. This divine tree's shadow destroys the heat of samsAram. It quenches the thirst for SrI KrishNA. It is the essence of vEdAs. So it is considered the distinguished authority. Pearls from the poems: The divine tree(AzhvAr) always stands here majestically to give us shadow and fruits, which while driving away our sorrows(samsAram), brings lots of happiness(bhagavat anubhavam) also.
