TirukkuRaL mentions that those who can not swim across the ocean of samsAram can not reach Lord's lotus feet. While it is impossible to swim across even a calm river, what to say about a turbulent ocean. But nammAzhvAr's vAkku is like a divinely boat, which takes us effortlessly to our supreme goal. While bestowing all blissfulness in ihalOkam, it confers us the life in paralOkam, where there is no end to paramount happiness. At the same time AzhvAr's words are like hot sun in parching out the deep muddy pits otherwise known as paramatams. NammAzhvAr's detachment from everything, except for SrIman nArAyaNA, is well known from his phrases such as `sonnAl virOdam idu…' etc. Here we fondly recall the history behind our tUppul kulamaNi's `vairAgya panchakam'. Pearls from the poems: The vairAgyam of our kulapati and kulamaNi shall always be remembered. The mere thought of their kalyANa guNAs will take us safely to His lotus feet.(acting as a divinely boat) [saTAri Satakam is one of the many classic works of srI. U.vE.
